Axle Surgeons
I hope none of you ever have a drive axle issue where the spindle is damaged , but if you should Axle Surgeons are the one's to call. I had a right rear outer axle bearing go out on my Peterbilt and had a oil leak. I managed to get it back to where I keep it and pulled it apart to inspect what went wrong. I had spun the outer bearing on the spindle cutting a ridge in it. I can't run it like this and need either to replace the rear axle or have it repaired. I called Carolina Axle Surgeons,They came this morning I had to have the axle stripped down on that side with the brake backing plate removed,so all they had was the end to deal with. The Tech made a measurement, then took a Milwaukee bandsaw and cut off the axle end,he then mounted a fixture on the brake mounting flange and set up a boring bar on it, he centered the boring bar and started making cuts to thye inside of the axle housing, He then selected a sleeve,and heated it and slipped a new spindle end into it to the depth he had measured earlier,this assy then cooled and contracted he had a .010k, press fit,He then welded the back end all around. Once the housing hole was bored which is a .010 interference fit also he cut two holes in the sid eof the axle with a torch to butt weld the sleeve in the back,He then heated the housing with a torch and then slid the new spindle end into the housing to the exact measurment he had taken earlier.This cooled and tightened right up. He then welded the two Butt welds in the back sides,and then all around the spindle to housing gap. He was finished his work and reassembly was on my end. His cost $1250.00 beautiful job ,clean competant tech,saved me a couple grand!P.S. I've had some dang expensive repairs this year so far! I sure hope this is the end for a while! I realize this wasn't on my RV but if you ever have a issue like this these guys are the ones to call,they are Nationwide and Warranty is also.
