Removing Drawers from slide mechanism

I have done several searches on the forum without any luck.
 
I have done it before, but do not remember the trick.
 
I think it has something to do with the gray rubber tab, but not what.
 
Would someone please tell me how to remove the drawer from the extension slide mechanism?

There is a slide tab that has to pushed up or down to release drawer

Is there any way to tell which way it is supposed to go?

In working on one, the lever was willing to go up or down. I could not tell which was correct.

One of the drawers I am trying to remove is the top one in the bedroom stack. It is too close to the wall to be able to see it, so I have to find some other way of lucking onto the right series of gyrations.

I haven't been able to figure out any pattern to which side goes up, and which side goes down, maybe it just depends on how the installers position them.

But once you feel the levers, just try pressing one side up, and one side down.  And if that doesn't work, just try the opposite.  Once you get a feel for it, it will be easy.  At first you think you might break something, and be gentle, but it does take a fair amount of pressure.

My problem has been that as soon as I let it go, it pops back to the center position, which is locked,
 
If I use a small screwdriver to hold it down, at some point, I have to let go with the screwdriver to let it go further. There must be something wrong with my technique.
 
Are you supposed to lift the end tab and move it up or down? Are you supposed to use a "tool" to push the "lever" up or down? Is there something you can do keep it positioned until it releases? Would Popsicle sticks or toothpicks help?

So, you kind of have to do the right and left side simultaneously. 

See Barry's pic?  Let's say that was the right side of your drawer, so using your right thumb, press that lever toward the floor, and that same lever will be on the other side of the drawer (but upside down,) so slide your hand back on the left side, and using your left fingers, pull up on that lever toward the ceiling.  Do both sides at the same time, as you are pulling the drawer toward you (pressing one lever down, and pulling one lever up.)

And keep a little pressure on it by pulling the draw towards you.  If you cock the draw over to one side slightly as you pull the tab should stay unlocked.

Easiest if you start with the drawer fully extended.  If the drawer is in a position that you can see the drawer slide, the arrow shows the "release" direction (see Barry's pic).

If mine looked like that, I would never have had to ask the question. I assume his picture is of his 2003, but do not know. Mine is a 2000, and the "lever" mechanism is a whole lot different. It is a gray rubbery material, and is eager to pop back to the center position, which is locked.

I have done it before with success, but that was a while ago. Today, I tried several times but was never successful. I was able to release one side, but it locked again while I worked on the other side. If I haven't gotten it done by then, I will ask Brett to demonstrate it for me in Madison (with appropriate compensation, of course).  :) 

Some of you are just beginning  to realize what the rest of you have known for a while; my elevator doesn't go all the way to the top. (There is a medical explanation, but it is still prime time.)

That does make sense, but in my case fully extended covers the lever moving area.

You have to hold the lever down as it doesn't always lock as you pull.

Trent, our coach builds are just a few apart and mine works as all have said.. Pull drawer all way to end of slide and with fingers on each slide "tab" press up and down and pull firmly. It may feel like it does not want to come out for a second then will.

Ours work well by fully extending the drawer and then pushing up on one gray tab and down on the other while continuing to pull out on the drawer.
