Bob,
You are right, the honda's are not the answer to all problems. But, if you have the honda, diesel gen set, and perhaps good solar.
you are prepared for most bad situations. I even have a big inverter and battery on my toad, to use as a power source if everything else goes south.

Maybe I'm wrong but I always thought if both chassis and house batteries were depleted, I could use jumper cables from my toad to the coach batteries to start the generator.  I have never had the chance to try it.
I always carry a 120VAC, shop style battery charger incase the invert-charger fails.

Takes a while to add enough charge to a depleted bank of house batteries to start the gen.  Fast idle the car.  Lots of minutes to bring up big dead batteries

Almost better to pull off the battery cables and jumper directly to the gen start circuit if really dead dead.....

Most gens have the circuits for a third dedicated gen start battery.  Space maybe not.

I recommend adding a Magnum generator auto-start module to prevent complete discharge.  Fully adjustable, easy to wire, not expensive and a necessary part of having a ONE battery setup.
