Don't Chat

I read this morning a tip about RVing....do not chat with others or allow them to chat with you when hooking up the toad.

The thinking, probably obvious, is that the person doing this work must keep their uninterrupted concentration or some key task may be uncompleted or done in error even though you may have done it "hundreds of times".

I am quilty even though i figured it out some time ago....it is just natural to be helping a friend or wishing them a safe trip while all gather about to watch the activities.

Be safe friends,

Mike

Yep, I learned my lesson. If someone, or something interrupts, just STOP.

I have hooked up so many times that it is second nature. I also do a final sweep and check each connection and make sure everything is put away.  I have not had an issue in 14 years hooking up the car.  The only time I ever had one was in my first year and I was alone and just forgot to take the brake off the wrangler. I noticed pretty fast with the black marks behind me. To this day, I always turn the wheel a bit when I start out to see the rear tires of the tow car to make sure they are turning.  I think a standard visual and touch check is a good thing to do.

Every time I hooked up I did a 360 around the FT.
I then stopped at the Blue Ox again and verified EACH connection was correct.
This includes the 3/4 in diameter cord that tied the slide pins in. (Since one fell out on me.) Of course, YMMV
