U280 deadbolt is dead

Deadbolt for our 95 u280 felt a little odd when I opened this morning so I tried to open it with the key outside. No go. Key opens it except for the last 3/8 of and inch. Dismantled it and wd40 didn't help. Says Schlage on the lock. Don't suppose these are at hardware store locally.

Check with a old-time locksmith, I found one who had parts for the Airstream. (Same deadbolt as the Foretravel.)

I haven't had the need to disassemble ours, but the external appearance and key blank are the same as our deadbolts at home, and I suspect a Lowe's or Home Depot might have a replacement assembly that would work.

Bob, When you lock/unlock the door try pushing on the door as you turn the key, these doors are tight and even a little misalignment will cause the deadbolt to be hard to turn.

Bob,
Has the door sagged due to wear on the piano hinge?
You can see how much by inspecting the decal strips as they transition through the door.
I had trouble with my lock until I shimmed the door.

The door it self opens and closes great, no rubbing or scraping against the frame  When locking and unlocking the deadbolt, the shaft or plunger ( part that enters the door frame) clears just fine. No alignment problems there either. The plunger moves ok sorta. You can feel resistance with the knob and more so with the key. Both turn just ok and not at all like the Schlage deadbolt on our other home:)  Feels like something is wrong the sliding mechanism inside the door. I measured and it looks like a 2 3/8 inch set back.

Now the question is how do I get that part out of the door. Looks like through the latch mechanism below. Don't really want to dismantle it at the rv park. May have a locksmith come out and build a key for the door lock. I've been told not to use that lock but hope it's ok for temporary.

I was told once that there are all kinds of master keys that fit RV door locks. True or not true, but a previous owner of our coach put a key operated deadbolt lock above the OEM door lock. Less worries now.
Inside we rotate a half moon handle and outside with the key.

So, would that mean that our locks on the bay doors aren't all that secure either. Looks as though it's the same type of key.

The door key and the key for the bay doors look similar but they use a different blank. Hardware store here in town had a blank for the cargo bays but not the entry door. He had to order it for us.
Have you tried a graphite lubricant on the deadbolt?

Check your keys. If you have a key with the following: CH751 you have the "common" key I was referring to. Ours happens to fit the fuel door right below the driver's side window. Our RV dealer service manager told us that that particular key fits most RVs with a fuel door, and that RV dealers have master keys for the Bargeman door assemblies and others.
Otherwise, what is a dealer to do if the keys for the RV "walk off"?
