New U280 on the Oregon Trail (scenic route)

First, the time has come to thank Bob and Nadine Hall for being the most patient and gracious host ever. After we bought their coach they provided a place to stay in the coach and taxied us around if needed for a few days. All in the true spirit of the Foretravel community. Showed us how everything worked, great stuff.
Oregon trail started by heading south,I know huh, my wife never does anything the normal way. We made it over the Rotan pass the first day buy about 7pm. 160 miles, still getting use to stuff. Stayed in a "closed for repair restaraunt parking lot", boondocking isn't it?
Excellent home cooked breakfast the next morning by 9am, haven't done that when traveling for many years. We loved it. Off to Dancing Eagle Casino after breakfast, 278 miles this time. Topped off the diesel tank just because and if it was level and at the same spot at fill neck. 11.2 mpg, but I know it's too early to call it.
Tonight at the Twin Arrows Casino (250 miles) we are sitting here wondering what the best way to Las Vegas will be. (Are you starting to get the Casino picture) her sister lives there though so we aren't total casino junkies. I'm looking for the shortest route but the pass over Householder pass looks a little ugly according to the new Mountain pass app. I herd that there was a new bridge over the dam. Has anyone gone the way of 95 out of kingman or would 63 to 95 north be best. Help.
Oh and found out today that carpet under pedal can get in the way and raise the rpm just enough that Alison wont shift. THANKS to the forum for that info. I know someone somewhere has been towed for that.
    Sorry about the long post.

Yes, new bridge above Hoover Dam divided four lane nice highway, no problem...Casino just on the other side on the right!! Lake Mead recreational area is also just to the right/north. Las Vegas Bay campground very nice boondocking kind of place, short distance to the strip.

Robert, Glad to see that you are on the road.  I was beginning to worry since it had been many weeks since I saw you and Bob in CO Springs.
Good luck with your 280.  Any questions be sure and ask, between all of us there is a great deal of knowledge about the 280.
If you do get in a tight call me, ill send you my cell number in a PM.
Oh, and put a quarter in a lucky seven slot, if you win keep 10% if not Ill give you the quarter later.

Robert,

Best wishes on the journey!  And ditto re: "the true spirit of the Foretravel community."  If I haven't given adequate credit to the prior owners of our coach (Mark & Donna Crick), then I should here.  Mark did a wonderfully comprehensive PDI / orientation before we set out from Kansas for South Carolina.  And the two of them completely furnished the coach for us — knowing that we were flying out and would have no linens, no food, no nothing to make the journey home.  Moreover, the coach was in gorgeous shape, meticulously maintained and fully ready for the trip.

Like you, I can't say enough good things about the Foretravel community.  Foretravel's quality impressed us at the first rally we attended.  But the gracious spirit, kindness, and genuine helpfulness of everyone we met was the clincher.  Happy you have experienced the same thing.

Now . . . Susan & I look forward to making a trip like you're making!  <smile>

Bob & Sue,
Happy to hear you picked up the coach and are "on the road", let us know how the 280 does, as you know we have the same model and year, 8.3C, 36' WTB and all. We have made only a short 400 mile round trip to Tarpon Springs, Coach did well, no issues, we are hoping to take another trip over the Thanksgiving holidays.

Today we made it to Las Vegas for a total of 900 plus miles so far. Still don't have great fix for the dead bolt it works sorta. I am adding it to the list of small touch ups that we plan to do to Woody. My DW named it  "Woody"as she was re cleaning everything that I'm sure Nadine had already cleaned (you know how women are) and she remarked that there sure is a lot of nice real wood in this thing -- hey, we are gonna call it Woody. Not a female name but what r ya gonna do "if mama's not happy then nobody is happy.

Every things working fine has enough power to take me as fast as I want to go. Hey it's about the journey right. Hope this pic came through of Suzzie and Woody at Las Vegas SAMs Club KOA.

Ops.  Make that SAMs Town KOA.

Just wanted to rate the Samtown KOA Las Vegas that we stayed at on my favorite web site (Forfum)
All the connections worked great except reversed polarity on 30 amp. They fixed it within 30 min. Used the 50amp instead, as well I should have but it said 220 on the pedistal which made me nervous. Of course it worked fine as you all already know.
Nice quiet park with a few shade trees.
Casino on site which makes it the only RV park in Vegas within walking of gambling. Cab driver told us that Circus Circus on the strip took out there RV park.
Walmart across the street if you need to restock some thing.
Staff was attentive, friendly and accommodating. All in all we will stay there next time we RV in Las Vegas. Robert.

I just got back from Las Vegas last week.  My favorite RV park is the Main Street Station park in downtown on 200 N. Main.  The park has full hookups and is across the parking lot from the Main Street Station, and 2 blocks from the Freemont Street Experience.  I love the area, no need for cab. Everything is within walking distance.  The park is only $17 a night.  Also there are churches within a few miles.

Dang. I looked and didn't see a thing about Main Street Station. I've got to start asking before I get there.
Which brings up our next stop, headed to Reno so what would be good there. We thought Grand Sierra would work since we don't have a towed.

Stayed at Tonopah Nevada Casino last nite. Full hookups and 30 amp service. Sites were pretty level, quiet area. 23 bucks if you have AAA or Good Sam.

Good friend works at 4Queens casino on Freemont street and he has to park a block or two away. Panhandlers, fights later in the evening and people doing there business on the sidewalk one block away. Did you find that not to be the case?

What happens in Vegas, stays in Vegas😀
Have stayed at Main Street  twice and haven't seen or heard anything like that, but we are probably asleep by then. Love to people watch on Freemont street!
