No Air Pressure

Help!  This noon I started the coach and backed out of my parking spot without incident.  While backing up to hitch up to the stacker the low pressure alarm started.  The air gauges didn't move, even on high idle.  I don't hear any air leaks.  I tried some percussive stimulation on the D2 governor, but it didn't help.  Any ideas?  Right now I have the driveway blocked.  The parking brake automatically set on low air pressure.

Brett

It is hopefully the D2.  Take the cover off and turn the screw all the way one way counter clockwise then back and see if it frees it up.

I agree with Ron on the drier.  Sounds just like what ours did last year.  You're lucky it happened where it did.

air drier. Remove the screw on filter on the top and see if it airs up. If not, pull out the smaller filter down inside and see if it airs up. If not, uh oh. It's the drier. If it does it's the filter(s).

I had the same problem after Bern'd installed a new dryer stopped me at FT parking lot. He sent over a tech with a new dryer and installed it in the parking lot of FT. Made it back to Bern'd before low air pressure stopped me again. They replaced the new governor with the one they had taken off and no more problems.
I would lean toward the governor.
Any one know if a governor can be rebuilt?

They are under $25. Probably not worth the effort to rebuild.

I've installed my second NAPA governor with the same results.  Is there another source I can trust?  NAPA swears they have never had one returned.  Right!

Try bypassing the air drier to determine if it is the drier or something else.
Good luck,

Did the drier fail without the purge stuck open?  I have no air leak at the drier.  I removed each filter to no effect.  I have strong air leak at the EXH port on the governor.  Could I have installed the plugs in the wrong positions on the governor.  I made a diagram, and the ports with plugs show sealant residue, but I guess anything is possible.  I guess I'll see if I can find a drier for the morning.

You can bypass the dryer to see if it is the issue too.

Google "D2 Governor", a very good picture showing the ports and their purpose. Should simplify the mystrey.
Would show the link, however iPad & I are not friends.

OK.  It's now midnight.  I've found the broken parts inside the drier, so you guys that correctly diagnosed the problem should take a bow.  Now how do I find a Haldex Pure Air Plus fast?  I'm marooned on Cape Cod, but I have my sister's car, so I can travel if I can find one.

Brett,
Some NAPA's have and all can get repair kits and reman'd units for the Haldex/Midland-Grau Pure Air Plus.  Hyannis, Orleans and Falmouth.
That's where I'd try first.
Good luck.

+1 on NAPA - they can check warehouse inventory on line and might be able to get it to you in 24-28 hours.

DA33100X is the factory re-manned Haldex Pure Air Plus.  Don't turn in the old one for core charge until you do the replacement; you'll need to harvest some fittings and wire up the new one's heater.

ETA - oops, missed that Fleetpride was also local.  Just be sure to get a factory re-manned unit to be sure it's been fully rebuilt to spec.

NAPA told me which outlet in the Nac area had one when mine went south.
They held it for me and then transferred it to the Nac store where Brend's folks picked it up and replaced the old one.

Elliot,

Yes, I'm leaving for NAPA now.  Fleetpride had one, but only in Agawam, MA which is 150 miles away. NAPA said none of the local stores had one, but the Boston warehouse had one which they could have tomorrow.  I called a NAPA store closer to Boston, and they had morning deliveries from the warehouse so I'm going to drive 100 miles and pick it up by noon.  I just hope I've pulled off all the right fittings as Michele suggests.

You can return core to any Napa store - keep the core until you are done with the job.

+1 on keeping the core.
On the low probability chance that the reman'd unit is DOA, you will be much further ahead to have the old core until you are back in normal operation (and any NAPA will refund that old core).

You've got to love this forum. I have seen many, many times where a person with a serious problem has been immediately given solutions that have pulled them out of a nasty situation (like blocking traffic or stuck out in the sticks).
I check up here every day to see what other Foretravellers have done when upgrading their rigs. Believe me, it has saved a lot of time and money (and hair pulling) when others point out the obstacles they have experienced, and how they finally prevailed.
Thanks to all

Guys, you were too late on your core advice.  I actually took off more fittings than I needed to.  Anyway, the new drier works perfectly.  Anne wouldn't let me start driving tonight-she said I looked too exhausted.  Instead, we'll head out early and stop for breakfast along the way.  Thank you everyone for your helpful suggestions.
