Forum search

I know some people have posted that they never search the forum.

I don't understand why. 

We have so much information archived here and a really good Search function (that Steve is constantly improving).  If a member doesn't take advantage of the ability to search the collective stored knowledge they could miss just the answer they are looking for or some auxiliary info they didn't realize they needed.  It could also inspire a post to raise a question that hadn't been asked before and that will further enhance the knowledge base.

Just a comment to explain when someone posts "search the forum", it's not that they are being lazy or grumpy, it's because there's a really good collection of information preserved here in the forum database and the ability to access it is one of the reasons this forum was moved to this format vs. remaining a Yahoo group.

Great advise
I always do a forum search before asking any questions. This helps me ask the correct question if I don't find the answer I am looking for in my search. I have searched by the wrong search word but another try usually gets the results I need.

I belong to another forum unrelated to motor homes and at the top of the first page is a polite statement requesting that you search before posting a new topic.  Looks like there are far fewer duplicate topics on that forum.

"Search" is a wonderful function, whether it is Google, etc. or this forum. I use it and sometimes I find exactly what I want; other times Michelle posts with search results with exactly what I want, but didn't find.  :o
Search techniques are illusive for some of us..... just saying.
Having said that, we should all start by using the Search feature. But, if unsuccessful, it is likely someone here will point you in the right direction.

I tend to use Advanced search, because I can put in a number of words that I'm pretty sure would be in the post (e.g. hwh bowl cracks) and often can think of who might have posted useful info in that thread (my go-to for air dryer tech are Pamela and Mike), and if it was recent, I ask for "most recent first" result output rather than the default "most relevant first"
