Water tank fill valve not sealing

I pulled into a campsite and connected the water supply as usual. the water tank was about half full at the time.  After a few days, I noticed a drip coming from the overflow. The fill valve under the lavatory is closed but its leaking by and filling up the water tank and out the overflow. Anyone have this problem? how do you fix it.

Rick,

Least expensive fix is to fill tank, turn off water hose and run on fresh water pump.

My fill valve was replaced by cutting pex crimp rings, replace valve and install new pex crimp rings using crimp ring tool.

Another solution:  add a second "fill valve" in the utility bay.  I had a different problem - my back flow valve in the fresh water fill hose line was always leaking.  So I just cut a small piece out of the pex pipe coming from the water hose reel into the coach, and stuck on a SharkBite 1/4 turn valve.  Now when I fill my tank, I have to open both the valve in the utility bay and the one under the bathroom sink...no big deal.

In the photo, you can see the white valve on the bay wall above the hose reel.

Result, my fill hose no longer dribbles water going down the road.  Adding this 2nd valve would also cure your leak.

Rick..
We had the same problem. After searching on the forum, we installed a new valve (under the bath sink floor) using shark bite fittings and problem solved.

Thanks all.  I was hoping there was some simple adjustment that could be made but, I guess I'll have to tear into it to fix it. meanwhile, I can turn the water on and when the overflow drips, I know the tank is full so I turn the hose off and run a few days on the pump.

Hang on a sec. I replaced my valve same as Hans&Marjet, however, try this. I have one drain valve in the water pump bay that leaks. EXCEPT if I move the lever just a smidgen off of the closed position  it stops.  It's worth a try. I have not had to replace that valve yet.

Waters on, valve is open just a smidgen. we'll know tomorrow. If it works, I'm  happy. if not, I'll work on replacing the valve. Thanks.

I dismantled and cleaned the electric fill valve to fix a slow leak, but this will depend on which valve your your motorhome has.

One of the other indicators that the fill valve is leaking is the coaches water pump will cycle to keep the lost pressure up. To test this the outside water supply must be off.
Just another observation.

The second photo down this page shows the small clear plastic vertical tube that displays the fresh water level.

I never add fresh water without watching the the level rise, and then no higher than 2/3 full.

I use the pump t distribute water in the coach.

I also cycle the water valve a few times when starting or stopping the electric valve.

As always... YMMV
