VMSpc: ISM not in engine list

The VMSpc engine selection list does not include the ISM. I've selected the M11 450hp. I've been wondering, since I have an ISM, if all the data will be accurate.

I've searched and can't find any info concerning this. Any thoughts from the long time VMSpc users? Especially those with an ISM?

As far as I know the M11 choice is the one to use.  i'll follow up to be sure.

On the ISM11 interface with VMSpc the version 3.1 build 3 had some inadvertant oddities resulting from trying to fix some things for the ISL engine.  These make the total fuel reading jump all over the place.

Art from Silverleaf suggests using the version v2.5b10c available here:

The newest version 4 something uses a different format for screens which means the old screens have to be rebuilt.  No import process.

Thanks for jumping in Roger.

I have 3.1.3 and 4.0 Final  loaded and screens set up for both. So I'll be trying both versions.

I'm aware there have been some problems with 4.x and it's on hold for now.

I sent Art an email asking about the M11 and ISM11 question.

I think my total fuel went wonky when I upgraded to the 3.1 version.. When you turn it on it reads from the ECM th correct total fuel and then starts displaying millions of gallons, billions of gallons different numbers at randon.  The ECM is correctly accumulating engine use of fuel so instant mileage and recent mileage are correct.  The fuel used in this tank and miles until empty go goofy too.

So I am going back to 2.5.  No substantial differences as far as we are concerned. They added JIB to PC wifi capability in 3.1 if you have the JIB to do that.  I'll report on what that does.

I went to the Silverleaf presentation at the FMCA reunion in Pomona this year and was happy to hear that a major update was coming. Unfortunately, as mentioned above, version 4 has been pulled and is on hold. No word on when it will be fixed and available... I haven't been able to see any screen shots to see what sorts of changes have been implemented. I was hoping for being able to lock the gauges positions and sizes to prevent accidental modification and fixing some retarder and cruise control status issues, and hoping for some redesigned graphics to bring it into the 21st century. Anyone who tried the newer version, I would be interested if you could comment on any noticeable changes (other than bugs that were introduced by the upgrade).

Thanks Jor. That's really the only choice available. But since they are not the same engines, I wonder if the readings are somewhat inaccurate.

Also wonder why the ISM isn't listed. I'd say it's a rather popular engine.

The ISB, ISC, ISL, ISX are on the list but not ISM?

I have a version 4 installed but didn't get much further than a first look since it requires you to rebuild you screen from scratch.  Not sure what other issues there are, maybe they are working on a screen converter.

It does have a screen lock, finally.

I have the older Serial DB-9 setup, chose the M11 450 worked great, when changed to the 500 hp, just changed to M11 500 hp, always worked smooth and always gives good info, smooth & steady.  one of the better devices on board.  Would feel lost without the display, just looking at the normal dash would be terrible.

The M11 came out in 1994 and was upgraded to the Celectric and the Celectric Plus and then with Cummins Interact System to the ISM11 in 1998.  ISM engine have different fuel and emissions management systems.

Art got back to me. He says that for the average RV driver selecting the M11 + HP for use with the ISM11 is appropriate.  The ISM was produced in higher HP models.  He said he can create a profile specifically for the ISM engines if he can get specific torque/hp charts.  I sent him what I have.

So no, they are not the same engines but for the purposes of VMSpc they are very close.  If you want you can make calibration adjustments.

Don, if you set the .scr file to Read Only, would that "lock" the screen to prevent accidental changes?

Dick, that would prevent you from saving a change but not from changing the screen.  Version 4 has a screen lock that prevents inadvertant screen changes.

Roger, I somehow missed your reply from a day ago. Just saw it when Dick's post brought it to the top.

I'm glad you brought that to Art's attention. It would be good (maybe not totally necessary) to have a program specifically for our fuel and emissions management systems.

Roger, if you can't make a change, then wouldn't the next time you opened the program it would come up with the layout you didn't want changed?  :D

Dick,
In the current releases when you make a change to the layout you have to save it.  The last one you saved is the one that will open when you start VMSpc.  In the current versions (before 4) if you move your mouse over a gauge and click the gauge becomes editable, it can be moved or the size changed.  As I understand the change in Version 4 is that once you lock a gauge it will not move or allow you to change its size.  Some like the one where you add fuel must allow you to make that change without changeing position or size. 

In the earlier versions if you click on a gauge (or if younhave a touchscreen, just touch it) it looks bigger and is an edit mode.  When I do that I just click on the Maintenance part of the menu and then Cancel on the popup box and the gauge goes back to normal.

When you change a screen save it as something like myscreenyyyymmdd.scr. The date code lets you see when you made the change.  The next one you save will have a different date so your earlier screen still is there and you can go back to an earlier screen. 

I have been a bit busy so I haven't dug into these new changes much.  i am actually going back to the last release of version 2 to get around a problem in the release 3 version.
