Turbo for a C8.3

I have searched the forum without any luck, if this is a dumb question then I will apologize in advance.......
Does anyone know what make and size turbo came on the 95 U280?      It does have a waste gate.
Would it be a Holset HX40?

There is a lot more to it than just HX40... it may be that model.. but there are many versions of each turbo. I had a cummins B3.9 and changed the size of the exhaust housing from a 12cm2 to a 9cm2 to spin it faster and make my surplus breadtruck fly, but both parts were off the same Holset HX35.  It is possible and likely there are many versions of hx turbos.

Thanks Matt,
The waste gate on mine appears to be stuck and I was searching for options as to what to do with it.

Is this you PN..  3524034?

If you've discovered it (WG) to be stuck, you must know what you are doing.
Put the part (WG) in something that will clean it (carb cleaner?) to get the carbon removed.
This will let you check out the condition of the piece and look for cracks and the other things that will effect the WGs operation.
If it doesn't pass your inspection, buy another WG (not a complete turbo btw.)

I'm not up to speed on your particular turbo but would guess the WG is directly bolted to the turbo and not a big deal to remove.
Also, REPLACE the fasteners w/studs (ARP) instead of bolts (just a suggestion fwiw.)

If treated with a little respect, turbos should last a looong time.  pc

Popular options to unfreeze a wastegate are oven cleaner, carb cleaner, brake cleaner, and some muscle into the mechanism.

If its really stuck, once removed the exhaust housing will be stamped with its size on the inside of the exhaust side scroll. Find a new one and youre set.

I would highly, highly recommend that you sign up for Cummins Quickserve and get the part numbers for your particular engine from their drawings.  This will have every part number you will need.  All you need is your engine serial number from the data plate on the engine.
