AquaHot Problem

Have been trying to use coach heat on electric only.  It seems that the bathroom and water closet heat are working well, but I get no heat from salon or bedroom exchangers.  Tank is serviced and indicating full for heat, and bay is warm.  Can anyone help me out as to where I should start trouble-shooting this problem?

Thanks, Mike

Really need to have the hydrohot on diesel to have the full heat working.

Mike,

If no heat from the front and rear heat exchangers means fans blowing cool air while the bathroom heat exchanger is blowing warm air, then I am leaning toward stuck check valves.

If you will get to the heater in the basement, remove grey panel between basement bays, remove the cover from the burner area of the heater, have a large screwdriver with something to whack it with and call me, I think we can get you going.

If no heat from the front and rear fan coils means no air being moved by the fans, then we have a different issue.  Two loose relays in their sockets would be a possible reason and seating them back in properly would solve that.  Access to the burner area of the heater is needed for this solution also.

I have started the diesel burner;  burner equalized temperature and shut off, and still no heat in salon, galley, or bedroom.  Fans are turning, thermostat is operational, but no heated fluid to the rubber hoses that feed the exchangers.  Hot water at faucets is good.  Will try your fix, and see if this may fix the problem.
Thanks,

Mike,

Classic description of stuck check valves.  Whack them with the pumps running, i.e.., with the fans running, they should open up and stay operational for the rest of the heating season.

Hey, THANKS Rudy,
That did the trick.  Btw, are the check valves the assembly that is outboard of the pumps, and where the rubber hose connects to the pump itself?

Thanks again, I was beginning to see dollar signs forming in front of my eyes!

Mike,

The check valves are brass valves mounted vertically above each of the three pumps.  The hoses out to the fan coils in the coach are above the check valves.

Yea, my pumps are mounted laterally, with the valves 'outboard' where the hoses attach.  With those sticking valves, is that an indication that they will need to be replaced sometime in the future?

Only replace check valves when they continue to stick during the heating season.  A very rare experience.

They have sat closed through the cooling season and will sometimes stick from lack of exercise.  Once opened, they usually work fine till left unused for a while.
