Dry air tanks question

I've had an intermittent problem with the coach leaning to the drivers side after a day or 2. I've used my contractor air compressor to refill air tanks to re-level coach. Since I don't have an air drier I empty the wet and dry tanks when done to get as much of the wet air out. This morning I only opened the drivers side dry tank only to see which needle (orange or white) on my air pressure gauge moved. After all air was out I checked my gauge and both needles were at 0. I then opened the air release on the passenger side dry tank and it was empty. Is this normal? I assumed the 2 tanks would be isolated from each other.

Don't have an air schematic to check. :( Tried search but couldn't come up with the magic words to get a meaningful hit. :(

Would really appreciate an air schematic for a 90's no slide if any one out there has one.

Is it just the 40 footers that have that lash-up? Hang in there Ken!

1. Is this normal?
2. I assumed the 2 tanks would be isolated from each other.

Ken,
1. No
2. You should have a check valve on the inlet to each tank that separates one from the other. (front air from rear)
Sounds like you need to pull the check valves and either clean them or replace them as a start.

Thanks Pamela & Mike,

I do suspect the check valves. Will start there.

I did do 2 more experiments. I filled the tanks then opened the wet tank valve. After all air was exhausted I checked the air gauge and both needles still showed 120. So looks like that check valve is working. I then opened the passenger side valve and only the orange needle dropped.

Looks like I'll need to do some sleuthing to find the misbehaving check valve.

Ken,

Those check valves should be # KN-23000 if you decide to replace one or all.

Ken, those check valves cause many problems if old or original. You can take apart and clean but as they are only around $10 I would buy new. Careful installing them as the threaded part were they come apart can get distorted if using wrong wrenches. Heat the thread ed tank part and it will make it easier to unscrew.
Maybe dumb question but why do you not have a dryer ???
