canvas cover behind step

What is the canvas cover behind the front step called? I have searched using canvas cover, and many other variations and still cannot find any information on it. Mine is in pretty bad shape, appears to have shrunk also.

Call FOT, I got one less than a year ago for about $20 but shipping (it got here fast) cost almost as much if not more than that!  Oh well, when ya gotta have it, ya gotta have it...wish there was something nicer looking 'cause they sure don't seem to look very good.

I have been reading posts about  FOT pricing being very good. The cabinet gas springs are $95 at Suspa and the search I did showed FOT around $10 2 years ago. I will make my list and get the items at FOT and shipping would be spread around all the replacement parts I order

I don't even have a step so am not knowledgeable about configuration, but instead of canvas couldn't you/someone make one out of the long lasting awning material? Colors and patterns galore!!

The Kwikee step conversion at Xtreme is a little more than the new flap Plus shipping, but way better looking and much safer to boot.  👍

....yeh the kwikee ones might be OK unless somebody doesn't warn you when it's about to come out & whack you in the shins!  >:D  (don't ask how I know this, it ain't a hard whack but still kind of a 'surprise' if you're not expecting it)....

I think both Bill Chaplin, and John Kerbs both had new step skirts made by the fabric guys in NAC that redo coach interiors.  Maybe the company was Infinity.

Dani, the Xtreme step conversion (Kwikee) stops when extending at very minimal resistance.  You do not get whacked, it is a gentle press and the step stops without moving you at all.

It was the main location for Wes Craven's 1991 "The People Benearth the Stairs". They will pull you in.

Ours was just stitched up black vinyl fabric. iMhad a spare for almost a year after our Xtreme step conversion.  We read about or knew three people who fell coming in or (mostly) out of their Foretravels.  The new step is sturdy and feels much safer.  Plus no air leaks up there any more.

Bought some black vinyl at Jo-Ann's and stitched up a new one.  Not very difficult.  Hard part is finding new black rubber bumpers for the step when it retracts.

All the posts refer to it as the "Kwikee step conversion at Extreme" do they have an exclusive right to the step? I can't find any Kwikee step with Google that looks like the converson

Craneman, it is a Kwikee series 42 electric step. Not just plug and play. Rance (at Xtreme) makes a new steel frame that fits where the old step was that bolts in place and the steps bolt into the frame. There is a other face piece that he makes as well. Once it is all fitted it gets removed and painted. An interior switch lets you operate the step with engine off. I added a splash flap between the front wheel and the step to keep road dirt and spray off the step. Works  well.

Might be something one could do themselves but it would take time to figure out. I'd rather Rance was crawling around under there than me.

Checked out the 42 series List at $1,700 on sale at PPL over $,1000 too steep for me to do a conversion, will live with the air step for awhile longer.

Rance at Xtreme may have some entry step covers left over from step replacements, maybe other parts. I saved mine, just tossed it a month or so ago. I also have the air regulators, air valves and air cylinders.  I am sure I will need them for something.

My step well cover looked horrible so I made my own out of abs plastic that I got at a local plastic company. It is textured on one side and I was able to cut it with a knife.  its been a couple of years and still looks good and hangs straight.
