Comfort Control Thermostat Question/Posting New Topic

I need to find out why my comfort control thermostat won't let the fans on either rooftop Penguin unit run on anything but HIGH.

Hi T-Man,

If you have a 4 button Dometic Comfort Control thermostat that is misbehaving, you might try doing the reset procedure.

Jim

If this is not your original thermostat or the zones and functions do not work normally, then do this reset procedure: 1  Connect the phone type cable to the back of the thermostat and turn on the power switch.

2  If possible, set both heat and cool to 70 degrees on any zone.
3  Depress and release the mode switch - the display background light should come on.
4  Depress and hold down together the two bottom buttons (up and down).
5  While still holding the two bottom switches add the third button from the bottom (mode button).
6  Release the mode button first.

7  Then release the two bottom buttons (up and down) together.
8  Depress the mode button momentarily. The display light should go off.  If not, repeat steps 1 - 8.
This reset procedure programs your thermostat to your RV's HVAC systems and temporarily displays 68 F for the heating and 72 F for the cooling.  Look for this as proof of a successful reset. Test all these functions on your RV - expect the usual 3 minute delay for the A/C compressors.

Try clearing your browse cache (CTRL-F5 on Firefox/Pale Moon, not sure about other browsers).  Sounds like your browser is presenting the screen for when you're not logged in.

I am on Firefox and tried it but nada.
I was able to normalize the page appearance using a different browser.

My bedroom heat Aqua hot requires a five degree higher temp set than the living room unit.

My guru buddy thinks it's because of the panel mounted temp sensor in that area.

Any thoughts about the display differences needed to have the same warmth in both areas?

Can a reset affect this?  All functions work perfect.  Just takes a higher setting in the bed area.

Anyone else?

Jim,.

I haven't done the reset yet, but additionly the front unit's compressor will shut off but the fan keeps running and then the compressor will come back on, and the cycle keeps repeating.

Is this is a/c mode or heatpump?

If the latter, it would be because the unit is going into defrost mode (shut compressor off but continue to run fan).

Which thermostat do you have, the OEM one (vertical orientation, I believe all 2003 would have the 5-button model) or the new CCCII (horizontal, blue LCD)?

T-man,

I would do the reset then see how it performs.

On cool "auto" setting the fan should stop when the compressor stops at the temperature selected. The speed may vary from high to low depending upon how hot the intake temperature might be.

With cool with "low, medium or high" settings the fan continues and the compressor cycles according to the temperature needs but the fan continues to run.

At least that is the way my 5 button thermostat works. I can only presume the 4 button thermostats do the same. Someone else should to chime in if it it different.

I have a 5 button Duo-Therm vertical thermostat.
Late yesterday I felt water on the kitchen floor and realized the AC unit must have iced up because it was dripping a bit.

T-man,

You might need to put that A/C unit on fan only to defrost it. There should be an auto-defrost sensor on your A/C, maybe it is not working.

T-Man,

Yes the 5 button thermostat procedure is pretty easy:

1. Turn the ON/OFF switch to the "OFF" position.
2. Simultaneously depress and hold the MODE and
ZONE push-buttons while turning the ON/OFF switch to "ON". FF should appear in LCD display until the mode and zone push-buttons are released.

If a dip switch is turned on after initial configuration, a system reset will need to be done before the Comfort Control Center will recognize the updated selection.
