Kubota 10 kW generator hour meter stopped

I changed the oil on the gen set a few weeks ago and also noticed the belt was just a bit loose.. So I of course pulled the gen out as far as I could to get to the tensioner and adjust it. I also cleaned about everything that I could get to with purple power degreaser, and VERY carefully rinsed things off without getting anything electric wet I think.

  Week or two later after some hours of running it , maybe 20 or 30 hours I went to check the oil, water and hour meter to see just what hours I had put on it and the hour meter was in the same place as when I changed the oil. What did I do now, I'm thinking (place head banging icon here). I have checked the hour several times since and it hasn't  magically fixed itself. Very suspicious that it stopped working from the oil change date forward. I clearly did Somthing during the gen pull out or belt tightening or degreaser w/ rinse...... I've thought that it needs the whole 1000 hour pro service, so I will have the hour meter thing addressed then and keep track of the hours on paper until then. But now I've forgotten to write down a few hours so I'm  asking the forum for opinions.

  I hate trying to fix one thing and breaking something in the process, but maybe there some wires in back to check ???

Bob, mine broke to. Took it apart very poor design. Replace with a different design, digital from ebay. Also replaced the one for the chassis same type.

Mark.  I may be headed there myself. I just hope it's the hour meter that went south and not a connection . Did you reset the new one with the proper hours (I don't even know if that can be done) or note it somewhere on the case maybe. Going to harbor freight tomorrow to get a new electric tester so that I can check connections. Just nervous about all that voltage in there when I'm checking, but the thing has to be running.

Bob, hour meter works on 12v DC not AC.  I just noted hours at change, that's just a lot easier. You can remove meter and hook to any 12v and check operation, engine off very much safer.

Bob,
I'll try to check the schematic on mine tomorrow, ours should be identical.  It should be a 12 volt hourmeter ..... if you have 12v at  the meter to ground then check the ground wire leaving the meter. A lot of these diesel hour meters have a ground wire that goes to a internally grounded oil pressure switch. check the engine block for a pressure switch, maybe the connector is loose/
