Allison retarder parts source

I am curious if anyone out there has bought sealing parts for an Allison Retarder control body. Namely sealing Orings. I recently did a fluid change and after cleaning everything up noticed that the Retarder control body appears to be leaking from 2 locations, around the control solenoid and the bottom plug. I have a service manual, but it does not give a specific parts number for these items. If they were just round I would just pull and go through my assortment, but one of them is a square cut.

Wondering has anyone else out there had theirs leaking and sourced the parts for fixing the leaks?

I had the same problem on my 04. I called Lewis large at 281 844 6026.  He is in the Houston area and only works on Allison.  He does all the garage trucks transmissions for the city where he lives. He works at night. He came to Nacogdoches and repaired mine. Several years ago he also repaired a rear seal on my Newell. I got his name from Rudy. Lewis is the best for Allison Transmissions.

Took several emails and phone calls but finally got in touch with an Allison service center in Atlanta. Seems Allison has distinct service areas that only certain shops cover. My county in AL falls into the Atlanta service are. Using the Serial number on the transmission, they spec'd all the parts for a complete retarder control body reseal. They also got me in touch with one of the Allison service techs, to talk through the details of the job. Thankfully so, as in order to reseal the Control solenoid the entire control body has to be removed, and a roll pin from the back side has to be driven out in order to get the solenoid out. Drain the fluid again, pain but not complicated. Entire reseal to include a new solenoid, about $160 and my time.

Seems like a decent price to me including the phone help,if you don't have one would get a roll pin punch and a new roll pin.

John,

yes I felt the same. the bulk of that was the solenoid ($125) it is still working, but leaking through the middle out to the connector as well as the outer orings. As the body and the roll pin have to be removed to just change the leaking seals, I figured its best to just put in a new one. Yes have a new pin coming as well even though roll pins rarely deform when removed. Punch/drifts, any sort of tools have more than I have time to use. The tech stated that he and other techs only use a 8d finish nail to do the job as the pin is not incredibly tight. I see the hardest part of the job as the draining of the fluid into a clean container, straining/filtering just in case before putting it back in. As just did a full synth fluid chnage at $300, I have no desire to replace again. Doesnt appear to be a hard or pricey chore at all, just sloppy due to the fluid part.

Be aware Ted is  a wholesale dealer and you have to have a tax number on file to get parts from him.

I didn't, and he was great help. Maybe he changed his rules. I would check

BTW, I have the $1500.00 parts manual, got it off ebay. Breaks some of the parts  down smaller.

I had a retarder hi temp signal coming on at  trans temp 50 degrees, it Showed a whole big piece that was over $500.00. My book showed the sensor part number, found it on ebay for under a $100.00. Fixed the issue

good point, I quit buying the cloth type years ago, when I had an issue trying to spray some metal flake. The ones I purchase now, sold by TCP Global, the mesh part is made of a pastic type netting rather than the old cloth type. But i will be using a new pan that has never had anything in it, so any particles should be minimum. Wish I had caught this leak before the change, but it is what it is.

Chris,
Thanks for the other link and topic about the parts manual.

Ok.
working with the following Southeastern Allison service group,
Home | RTS-Allison

I was able to obtain all of the part to reseal the Retarder Control body on a 3000MH Allison transmission. Due to the fact that the entire body has to be removed in order to reseal the solenoid, in my opinion it is best to just go ahead and replace the solenoid as well. It was 20 years old, and fluid was seeping up through it going into the connector body. Original quote had overlooked the valve body plate and gasket so the total came up to just under $200. Even though they recommend using your transmission serial number to search for the exact parts for your specific unit, the service tech I spoke to said that near all of the retarder systems on the 3000MH use the same parts. For any  others that might follow this path, here is the information and parts I ended up with.
