Bypassing the engine assist on the aquahot

Well, I got to TN on my return to VA and saw when I pulled in some red antifreeze under the coach.  I had lost a couple inches of antifreeze as well in the bottle.  So I knew what was going to have to be done. I topped it off and got home and went and bought a connector and pulled the coolant and return line off the AH and connected them together. I saw the elbow where it is leaking so I will have to get that attended to by someone who is better able to sweat it off and put a new one on and not let it leak.  This is the third time now that an elbow has worn out so I have experience with it.

John, I had the same issue on my '03. I ended up using PEX fittings, has worked out well. No soldering!

I soldered in a new elbow after a disastrous attempt by FOT failed quickly. After soldering in the new elbow, I supported the pump with a piece of wood topped by a rubber gasket to hopefully avoid the stress of the pump hanging from the elbow. So far so good ,but it has only been a year. Some have used a Shark Bite type elbow successfully, but you still have to sweat off the old elbow and clean up the tubing.

Well it is the front elbow instead of the back so I have that benefit.  Will look into pex to fix it

Pex (or sharkbite fittings) work great and they can be directly applied to clean copper pipe as well as pex pipe.  They also come as elbows, T's or whatever.
