Replacement of Bathtub Spigot in '92 Grand Villa

The diverter (to shower head) has stopped diverting.  Most of the water goes out the tub spigot.  Inasmuch as the spigot has never been replaced and is now 24 years old, I am not really complaining.  However, it needs to be removed and replaced.  Has anyone done this?  Is it much of a hassle?  I figure it must unscrew, but don't want to muck up the plumbing hardware behind the wall.  I can get to the back of the fixture via underneath the bathroom sink.  Are these standard plumbing (threads) fixtures or are they unique to RV's and in particular, to Foretravels? Does MOT or FOT carry this fixture? Any tips would be greatly appreciated.

If it is a Moen, I believe there is a set screw underneath right at the base. Then the spout should pull straight off, it is sealed with an o-ring IIRC. The coach is not accessible tonite, or l would look at mine. Good reminder, mine leaks too. :)

If I'm remembering correctly, this would do it, but it is not bright brass, they are about 3x more expensive.

Thanks Peter. I shall look under the spout for the set screw. Hopefully there'll be one. I have no idea what brand it is. 😳

Ah...Memories.  I replace the whole fixture and spout about 10 years ago- I think I had the same issue but the finish was looking pretty tired.  I think Peter is correct in how the spout works, IIRC.  The fixture is standard home stuff.  I had to order another Moen from Home Depot since they didn't carry the polished brass finish in stock.  I added ball valves right on the back of the fixture since my coach doesn't have a Manublock.  I used barb fittings and double hose clamps to connect to the existing grey plumbing lines.  I would use Sharkbite fittings if I had to do it again.  The degree of difficulty is dependent on what kind of access your floor plan provides.  Mine looked like it would be easy but was quite difficult since it was under the kitchen sink but offset under the counter - easy to see, hard to reach.  An there's a built-in middle shelf that was a pain to work around.

I checked my spout:  Unfortunately there is no set screw. On the inside of the wall is a 90 degree galvanized elbow flush up to the wall. It appears that the spout will have to be unscrewed, which, after 24 years may be a bear to do. Any suggestions besides brute force to loosen the spout? Can't tell if it's a Moen, as there are no markings visible, nor is there any brass plating left.

Yes, the other style is pipe thread. Here is a video, of course his unscrews right off... :) - but it might give you some tips. According to this, it looks like Moen has 2 pipe thread styles, one recessed into the spout, and one flush at the back.

Spout replacement

Just a thought, can you carefully heat the spout, maybe with a hair dryer, any heat will help to loosen the pipe threads. Then with a towel or something, grab on and apply steady pressure. Maybe, it will start to turn...

I just removed mine a couple of weeks ago. Dori's been wanting to change the polished brass out for nickel. Apparently it's the latest rage. She saw a web page that showed how to paint the brass nickel.

I removed the spigot with a big crescent wrench. Wrapped a towel around the spigot first then clamped down with the crescent. It took quite a bit of oomph to get it off and I did leave a small indentation. Once you have it off you might be able to revive it with some penetrating oil. The spigot is very heavy & high quality. Worth saving if you can get it working (if it's the same as mine).

These are repairable - says will repair "most" diverter spouts...
In reading the Danco instructions, it is not necessary to remove the spout to do this repair.
