removing bendix cruise control on my U225

how can I remove the complete bendix cruise control unit?.... air lines are hooked to it. I have a king cruise unit I will install. when I remove air lines from the bendix  unit I have no throttle control and probably brakes also. Can I bypass with compression fittings? thanks friends.

What do you plan to use for throttle control as the Bendix was your throttle which is air powered? The king cruise control would need to have a different throttle pedal and wiring to the king cruise

On our 91 GV, I just don't use the cruise control.  I don't even know if it works !  I can't imagine why you would want to install a different kind, especially with so many functions designed into it.  What is to be gained??  Have a great day  ----  Fritz

We will probably need a better description of your final objective, before you will get any more helpful answers.

Do you want to completely remove the Bendix cruise control and the air throttle?  In that case, as Ron asked, since the air throttle uses the same CC-5 cylinder as the Bendix cruise control, what will you use for throttle control?  Does the King cruise control kit include a electronic throttle?

Or, do you want to continue using the existing air throttle, but install a separate electric cruise control?  In that case, why bother to remove the Bendix unit?  All you have to do is turn it off and not use it.  Your air throttle will still work as usual.

It might be possible to remove the Bendix cruise control components, but retain the CC-5 cylinder for throttle control only.  See diagram below.  It is possible that you could disconnect line #11 from the DC-4 Shuttle valve, and connect it directly to the CC-5 cylinder.  I am guessing that this would give you throttle control, using the existing WM90DX throttle valve to control the CC-5.  But this is only a guess!

If that did work, then all you would have to do is disconnect line #6 at the RV-1 Reducing valve, and plug that line.  Then disconnect line #41 at the TR-3 Inversion valve, and plug that line.  That should cut off all air pressure going to the Bendix unit, and it could be removed.  Seems like a lot of effort for little gain.

If you DO remove the Bendix cruise control components, please do so carefully!  Try to be gentle with all the electrical connections as you pull them apart.  I may want to purchase some of the items you remove, to keep for spare parts on my coach.  Send me a PM if you go this route.

I know Brett did the same thing with ours, but not sure how deep he went. I'll check my files. Brett is taking a well-deserved break. (last I heard, he was in Amsterdam!), so not sure if he can chime in. M

I used (OEM) set up "bendix cruise control" on our (former) U225 all the time and it worked great.

Found the paperwork: I have a Cruise King KC-2500, installed in 04, Brett had problems with it in 08 and replaced the arm in 12. It looks like a wiring nightmare; I have ten pages of after-market schematics besides the factory manuals! Would be glad to copy them & forward them on to you.  ^.^d

Yes, the King Control is a very good option for an upgrade to the Bendix cruise.  Keep the air throttle.

Don't recall having to run any new wires, but did have to reverse some connections at the steering column.

Steve Boler is an EXCELLENT resource for the conversion:

And I have those wiring changes, if the OP wants. Thanks, Brett, watch out for some of those Cafe Places, they serve other things than coffee!  :giggle:

Yes thanks all again. I think I got it after support from steve at king control. I just left the old system in and kept the air throttle. I just bypassed the wires as steve instructed. I will test it next week on a short camping trip.
