Ford HVAC control on dash

My heat/cool control is inoperative so that I have no heat. It turns past the stop on the red side and seems very loose internally. I probably have other problems besides this control, but I have to start with it. I am pretty certain that these are Ford controls. Anyone know of a source for these? There is no Ford dealer in this town. This is not a desperate situation, but I would just like to get this repaired.

Yours is probably vacuum controlled, and if so, I would check that you haven't lost your vacuum pump.  On our 91 GV, I had to replace some of the  vacuum sys. components, but the pump was good.  ----  have a great day  ----  Fritz

The vacuum pump is located in the step door area and yes it is a Ford product. Available on e bay.  This operates the dash air by opening the vents.  When you first turn on the key listen for noise in step area.  Goes off after vacuum is pulled.

I could be wrong, but I am pretty sure that there is no vacuum pump in the HVAC system in our 99' U270. I took out the step well, and the only thing inside that cavity were the two air cylinders for the step. I have the plenum (and the dash area) taken apart right now, and all the flapper door actuators are electric.

My '99 uses vacuum for the blend doors and a vacuum generator is under the step. It is the air venturi  type not an electric pump. Air pressure goes through a valve and creates vacuum from venturi effect that attaches with a hose to a reservoir can which supplies the vacuum for the HVAC system. I have a previous post on how to fix the generator so buying an electric pump isn't necessary.

There is a vacuum pump under the step in 01. My 99 did not have it so you are right on that Don.

Perhaps it is a difference between the U320 AND U270, rather than a difference between years. As I understand it, theU320 (and I believe the U295) have a separate zone control for the passenger side of the dash HVAC. Perhaps that added control requires the vacuum assist... just speculating.
