Comfortable Jackknife Sofa bed

Have any of you found a Comfortable Jackknife Sofa that is good to sleep on? I don't have slides on my 91 so I think I am limited to a jackknife style .I tested the one in there and it leaves a LOT to be desired as far as comfort goes.

You are totally correct! When I had my back problems, I moved up forward. Prolly the most uncomfortable sleep I've ever had. I wrote it off to my screwed-up back, but now, I realize, IT WAS THE CRAPPY SOFA! Let us know if you find anything. M

I think that's the point....... Don't want guests to get too comfortable.

I'm with you Roland, My Inlaws in their early 70's mentioned they'd like to do a overniter down in Ga and go to a seafood restaurant thats been there forever, I'd love to take them down. I'd give up our bedroom for the folks, Don't need cranky seniors!!LOL But the front sofa is not comfortable.. We'll make the trip for sure , and Bet's and I will sacrifice our queen size island of heaven for the folks. I'm a good son in law!!!!LOL

Interesting; we've found ours to be comfortable, given what it is. Maybe try some better bedding, or a topper.

A memory foam topper might make it comfortable enough. But the you have to store it. Maybe an air bed? We have not slept on ours. Maybe the grands someday.

I solved issue by removing and having FOT put in a Villa Sleeper Queen Sofa - but need a slide to make that work - non slide coaches do not have enough space for an east/west sleeper sofa

It's pretty crappy to sleep on, as most tend to also have permanent ass-grooves imprinted in them. I'd throw a memory foam top on it, as mentioned, or find a decent air mattress.

I've hit some sales at walfart and got some decent air matresses in the past for $50. Make sure to get one that self inflates/deflates with it's own pump and the pump is 120v, not some crappy battery junk.

I would think that if one has guests often enough. The solution might be to utilize the ceiling of a bay to run a U bracket to store an upholstered piece of plywood (so as to not damage the sofa) and put it on top of the sofa, then use an air mattress. That would eliminate the waviness of the sofa and provide a solid foundation for the air mattress. The storage on the bay ceiling should minimize the loss of storage space. Of course it's dependent on one's bay layout as well and how much other stuff has been mounted to the ceiling already.

Our solution to both the bed and the jackknife couch is what Roger mentioned - two inch memory foam toppers from Sams.
We have an expensive tempur pedic mattress at home and the toppers get fairly close to that in comfort. At least much better than without the toppers.

Looks like what we need. Oddly, closing the jacknife is what trashed my back in the first place!

Our Original Jack Knife sofa was reupholstered by the Foretravel Shop in 2009 with new foam and Ultra-Leather. It hasn't been used often but although it looks like it would be uncomfortable, no one has complained. And as Roland said, we don't want anyone to get too comfortable so we aren't changing anything.

Sometime before we got our coach (01/07) the sofa had been redone. I love it. I sleep well on the sofa, mostly when I don't intend to do so. We've had others sleep on our sofa with no complaints, and come back. So, I guess redoing a sofa is an OK option.

Ours has a metal bar that you feel.I like the magic bed It looks like it would solve the problem, But then I look at the price and think, Wow my friends are going to have a crappy nights sleep.But free is free!

Having slept many nights on those sofas and always a different one , I found a cheap compromise Walmart sold waffled foam pads that help a lot. When not in use role them up and put them in a plastic garbage bag (new) and store below.

We use a 2" memory foam topper and after I fiddled with the mechanism the jack-knife lats flat. As to storage just roll it up width ways and under the couch it goes.
