TV install: What are all these wires?

Got the old TV out and paid Best Buy $25 to take it off my hands. Pulled out the old box and can now see why my mileage is low. Good night! there's over ten feet of wire from the spotlight just laying up there loose before it disappears down to the control joystick. Same thing with lots of coax, power and speaker wire. Do you suppose the installers got paid by the foot or pound of wire. Almost all of theme have some kind of a splice that could have been where they could be shortened. DW thinks maybe there was the thought of taking the tube type TV out to view outside but that's got a hook-up in the bay. I really can't see getting up on the roof to pull the spotlight and extend it the extra ten feet unless a bear was down below. Anybody else run into this?  ???

I just pulled a bin full of wire out of my coach.  It seems that every time installers would add or change something they would leave all the old wire behind.  It was a big tangled mess.

OK, all the unneeded wires are cut or coiled neatly. Time to deal with the wires that go up to antennas and spot light. I can cut the soft carpet-looking material to push the couple of wires up and out of the way. Is the antenna with the twisted or coiled for the out-of-service cell phone signal? If it is I can cut it and walk away. DW doesn't seem to understand time involved in doing something right. When I had a sticks and bricks and was taking my time rebuilding the back porch she said "just buy some boards and nail them together!" That pretty much describes most construction since the piramids. Need an answer on the twisted antenna thing.

If you mean, by twisted wire thing, and it's on the roof, then it was 1996 sort of state of the art, cell phone antenna.  It's use today, likely not needed.

Or I'm getting ready to put a Sirius Radio antenna on the roof.  You could use it for that.

cell phone frequencies have changed a lot since 95. Using the old antenna even with a booster, will probably degrade the signal instead of improving it. Different carriers use different frequencies. Best to buy antenna and booster set up for your phone and carrier.  How to determine your Cell Phone frequency range using WirelessAdvisor.com

I am using a Sure Call Fusion from Solid Signal...They are a very good company...Thought a new mast mounted on the old base may work as I upgraded from a 3G Wilson to The Sure Call 4G...Guess I should sell the Wilson.

Thanks for the information. I'm going to cut the wire and eventually remove the mast and base. Not moving as quickly on project as DW would like. Don't see her up here helping. :))
