[ATS problem?] Need some Advice ASAP

OK, just loaded the RV up heading to the Everglades and I think the automatic transfer switch is acting up.  It keeps cutting off when the AC compressor tries to come on. then after a few seconds it clicks again and the power is on again cycle keeps repeating itself.  I don't want to get down there and have no electric.

Thanks,
Woodie

If you have confirmed that it IS the ATS that is clicking, first thing I would do with shore power disconnected, generator off, inverter off is open the ATS and check for loose or burned wires.

Worse case, pick up a new one and install it/have it installed.

Another option is to wire around it (hard wire shore or generator IN to breaker box OUT wires.

I found 2 connections that seemed a little loose but its still doing the same thing.  What model should I replace it with?

Woodie,

Since you have the lid off it, check incoming voltage and outgoing voltage CAREFULLY.

You want to eliminate a problem with a connection "upstream" of the ATS.

Are you on generator or shore power when it keep clicking?

Left side of transfer switch are incoming. From generator and transfer switch.  Left side is out going to your RV breaker panel.

Woodie,

Your ATS may not be completely bad it may be tripping due to a bad start capacitor or the compressor being locked up on your A/C unit.  On our '92 we had the compressor lock up and caused the transfer switch to trip out just like you describe. The compressor was drawing the voltage down so low that the hold in coil was starving for voltage and this caused it to trip out. That ATS is one of the more robust built and can have the contacts replaced if they get burnt.

Just replaced that exact same ATS. ( was told those are no longer available )
Bought a Furrion F50 ( closest one to the original that I could find *Gen block and Shore block just opposite but other wise real close * the Furrion is in a plastic case )
The "F" is the key to being like your old one.
I'll try to find the invoice,  web site 'charging chargers' maybe.  In Oregon . ( but was shipped from Florida ?
$100 plus $20 shipping - ' Larry said ' 3 to 4 days - was 7 days.
Every thing is working so far, have not used the gen very much since the repair ?
Mine had on hot and the neutral with burnt insulation on the Gen block .
I was running ever thing in the coach on a hot interstate highway day ?
Good Luck.............~JL~

#1 cause of burned wired in an ATS is a LOOSE CONNECTION.  Good idea to tighten them once a year.
