Help me here Brett

I have the dash tore down and found the 3/4 in plywood under the Luna to be rotted pretty bad up near the windshield.. Not really supprised with the condensation over the years.. I don't want to tear that puppy out so my question is does this plywood play a part in the support of the windshields? I'm thinking of cleaning up the trash with a shop vac and putting Bondo in the bad area and feather it out over the solid.. What's your thoughts on the matter if you will.

There is a product that I used for the rotted floor in my Monaco. After sucking up all the rotted wood I drilled holes all over the area and filled the holes and rotted spaces. When it cured it was more solid than the original. Maybe someone here knows the brand name. It was sold by Home Depot and was better than Bondo at leeching into the wood.

Yes, that is a structural part of the front cap/windshield support.  Depending on how bad it is, git rot, fiberglassing properly, or recently a guy used aluminum to replacethe original good.

Dub,

Lots of threads about this subject.  A search of the Forum will bring up some "food for thought".  Here are a few to get you started:

I will probably get the Git Rot and try and sure the wood up with it... Maybe a layer of fiber glass over that. Appreciate the feed back..

I guess it's a good thing Trudy uncovered this for me because this board needs firming up.. not sure what I will do to the area where the screws come thru the outer structure and into the board but I don't plan on taking this board out.. That's just too much reconstruction for me.

I'm getting the 3/4 plyboard substructure shured  up with apoxy and wood putty.. That will be sound when I put the new dash back on.. Work is real slow with my trucking company and I am having my mechanic put 8 air bags... all new belts and hoses on the coach.. Will use this slow time getting this rig in top shape.. Think about paying later. My mechanic has to work doing something.. Him not getting a check is not an option.

Good for you! We had slow times doing irrigation, as well and keeping good help was a challenge. I finally taught my guys the carpentry trade, and we got my shop re-built.  ^.^d

Well we were able to do it all except the recovering and probably could have done that but I wanted this matter closed quickly.. Upholstery man just called and is finished so we will zip this puppy up this weekend.. Appreciate the suggestions, I didn't want to tackle this without talking to some folks who have been there and done that.. Can always count on that with this forum and I am thankful.. Dub

It doth not work that way: When we bought Bretts coach last year (the PO after him was no help), I offered to pay for a trip to AZ and free camping to help me figure out this coach.  His comment, was, ( to paraphrase) "You've got to learn how the coach operates and ask questions on the forum that make sense, and, no, I'm not coming to Arizona". ^.^d

Brett has a lot of experience.. All input is a good thing.. Good that people will take the time to offer suggestions. It helps many of us trying to do for ourselves keep from making a bigger mess of things.. I know from experience that a mess can be made bigger especially over here.

Our next project is air bags.. We do that pretty much weekly on either a truck or trailer so they are no stranger.. New belts and hoses and again that is routine.. I'm fortunate to have a shop equipped. It is good to have a host of forum friends that have tackled things that we have not.. My mechanic has skills and is confident and he usually says I got this.. Sometimes I say hold up a minute, there are some folks I want to check with..
