Halon Extinguisher for Frig

I intend to replace the original Norcold with a small residential but I need to do a several week trip before doing so. I'd like to install an extinguisher in the frig compartment just in case. I'm looking for a make and model recommendation. I'd like to get one that I could move to the engine compartment when no longer needed for the frig. Thanks.

Reality-- no halon extinguisher is reasonable for an engine room.  Halon is great in an enclosed area (engine room of all our boats).

But with the completely open layout of a DP engine room, suspect is more of a "feel good" than valid fire fighter.

We used one like this from Mac the fire guy.

SS30 CAG

Call and ask, tank mounts horizontally, 90° nozzle points up.

When you get a res refrig, you can sell it here to someone else who wants one.  That is what I did with mine.

What Brett says, because it only extinguishes fires by depletion of oxygen in a closed in space. Once oxygen re-enters a space because it's vented or it can't displace enough oxygen it may continue to burn or re-ignite. Switch off propane, use electricity or put a few milk jugs of frozen water inside of the compartments.

Good info on the halon. Thanks. I think I'll just install an ARP like I did on our last rig. It shuts down the frig before the fire. I sell it here when I get the residential.

ARP controller is a good idea for ANY absorption refrigerator.

Jor since you have done this before, ARP, do you recommend getting it with fans?

When I installed the ARP in our 300 I had already installed a fan in the roof vent. For my purpose which is temporary peace of mind, I'm just getting the basic unit. If I were keeping this frig I think I would go for the unit with the fan. Might as well get some improved efficiency along with the safety. Here's what it looks like. There's the device with the temp display, a relay and a temp sensor that installs in the stack.

Interestingly, when we were at Foretravel a few days ago, someone came in and had a residential installed in their 02 320. A couple of days before they smelled ammonia during the day. When they opened their refrigerator the inside was already hot. I'm not taking any chances. Good luck.

OP here. Installed the ARP today. Didn't shorten wires or anything so when I get around to pulling this Norcold I'll put it on the classifieds for an irresistible price.
