97 isuzu 10kw fuel pump

My generator fuel pump runs continuously when the gen is not running. Does anyone know what controls the operation of the pump. My Powertech Owners Manual does not cover it and searching the forums has not found anything specific to that. Is the pump energized internally or externally by a  pressure sw or is there a control circuit somewhere?

Thanks,

If your generator is like mine, then your generator's fuel pump is controlled by a relay inside the control box that is either mounted to the generator or externally.  You'll have to figure out if the relay has failed in the closed position or if something (ES52) is telling the relay to operate.  There should be 3 relays in there.  Fuel, crank, and IIRC, the last one is for the glow plugs.

Thanks Robert. While I was working on the oil leak I relaced the air duct going into that box with some stiffer tubing. Maybe I pushed it in too far and hit a relay. I'll be taking a look at that this morning. Nice to have a troubleshooting direction to go in.

Thaks again

Well, it doesn't look like the duct disturbed anything in the box. I pulled all 4 plug in relays & the pump stll runs. There is another relay mounted to the back of the box that with spade connectors, not plug in...hard to get to. I'm going to try to trace the pump wire to see what it goes to in the box. Maybe call Power Tech to see if they can help me.

Found the problem. When I reassembled the oil pressure sw. after resealing it, I tightened it too tightly causing the contacts to close which gave a false indication of positive oil pressure when engine was not running causing the fuel pump to run. Now to put everything back together.
