Drive Shaft Slip Joint Lube Procedure?
I want to gradually check all the grease fittings on our coach when I'm crawling around underneath it doing other chores. I'm starting with the easy fittings: the ones on the U-joints and the drive shaft slip joint. U-joints are easy - pump grease into one of the two Zirk fittings until it flows out of all 4 bearing cups. But looking at the drive shaft spline has raised some questions.
What is the correct procedure for lubing the drive shaft slip joint? I know there is one Zirk fitting on the shaft. How much grease should it take? Can I grease this point with the coach raised up on the safety stands? When the coach is raised up, the drive shaft is extended to maximum length. Does this create a big void in the grease cavity? If I fill the grease cavity with the coach raised up, will a lot of the grease be expelled out the vent hole when the coach is lowered back down to ride height?
Thanks for any tips!
