Generator paint

Has anyone found a commercially available paint that matches the gray on the Powertech generators?  I've tried calling Powertech  (service and parts) several times, regarding different issues and was directed to voicemail each time.  I haven't had anyone return a call, so  I have to give them a "thumbs down" on customer service.  I found a great closed cell sound insulating foam locally with adhesive backing and less than half of what Powertech sells it for and I'm  ready to re-assemble the generator cabinet.  The only thing left is to paint a small area - may have to use a contrasting (black) for that part of the frame.

SSP (Super sound proofing) Foam Mat 1" x 48" wide.  It cost me $20 - 10% (military discount) per linear foot.  I bought 5' and covered three sides and top (generator side was OK and more work than I wanted). It comes in different thicknesses if you want something thicker.  I don't have a brand name, but at least you know what to ask for if you call your local shop.  I bought mine at Super Soundproofing Co. in Escondido, CA.  You may have a similar store in your area.  This link should give you a photo:  ssp foam mat - Bing images

Have you tried this or have a referral?  If it isn't an exact match, I will have to go with my back up plan.

How did you handle the side with all the air slot openings?

Was the foam you used solid enough that it could have handled routing out (with a spiral saw) the slots to match the metal?

Thanks,

Trent

P.S. If PowerTech ever does call you back, please ask them if they sell replacement decals.

Called powertech twice this week. Left a message for parts both times, got a call back the same day both times. You should try again.1-352-365-2777.

I brought it to Lowe's and then Sherwin Williams.  I was told at SW that I could take it to the downtown store and they would be able to match it up, but I would have to buy a minimum of 6 cans (didn't say how much that would cost).  Lowe's of  course, couldn't help unless I wanted to get in a quart pail, and they couldn't guarantee a match.  I've put that on the back burner and am now having to deal with my vent fan.

Look up a local auto paint store, I have had good luck with them matching metal flake and other odd colors

I have been pretty pleased with POR15. Pretty easy to use, dries best with a bit of humidity and it is tough.

You can order/get high density closed cell foam in many thicknesses from a gasket shop.  If you want adhesive on 1 side, order it with "PSA" (pressure sensitive adhesive).  Thats the kind you peel the backing (paper) off.
