Door hold open doesn't

Title says it all.  No latch.  Inner and outer handles work fine.

Any ideas?  Known failure?  97 u320

Bob,

I did a write up a couple of years ago on how I de-paneled the door and adjusted the latch (with some pictures if I remember right). From there, replacement should be pretty straight forward. I think the hardest part would be snaking the new cable from the handles to the top of the door.  Suggest you take it apart first as you may only need the cable or the latch, not both.  The door manufacturer still has the parts and were very helpful.

I'm not home so can't ID the make and model.

We replaced ours about 3 years ago.  Did not have to take the panel off the door.  Took about an hour.

PTL Engineering:  Hold Open Mechanisms - PTL Engineering  made ours.  Still a sticker on the outer door.

Call them to order correct part.  I think we ordered 001-523.  :D

The guru mechanic should be able to look inside and tell you what parts you need to fix it.

Sometimes it is as simple as the top latch being rusty and sticking, if that is the case a little pb blaster should free it up

I've gotten mine to work by spraying lube on the parts on top of the door and gently tapping with a small hammer.

On my 98, the door would not stay in the open position.  Standing on a step ladder I could see years of wear on the old parts that had been worn away.  There is a moving part that should notch into a recess.  My notch and moving parts were all rounded off.  The new part was about the same price from the parts counter while at FOT.

The new assembly was a complete unit, for the top of the door, and the top of the door opening.  The only tricky part is making the in the door cable connection where it hooks to the new unit.  As mentioned, it's about an hour to replace, and you don't need to take the door panels apart.

Then you will have to help others understand they need to release the open door catch, and not just pull the door loose off the catch with force.

When I bought the FT I HATED the "hold open" feature. Still don't like it, but learned to live with it. Butttt, beamalarm, once again, has info to help us out.
