manual open cable for bay door

Our rear curbside start battery door has been touchy to open.  Problem stems from the closeness and alignment between the handle and latch, where pulling the handle does not pull the latch enough to cleanly open.  As a backup, I added a manual 'pull to open' cable.

Barry,  I just did one on a 99. The generator access door LF drivers side.  We adjusted the handle moving it away from the latch just a little.  It took a couple of tries.  Just loosened the bolts on the handle and adjusted.  Also spray the latch with some silicone spray.

On our coach, the two small rear compartment doors close off areas that have an open bottoms.  So I can reach up to access cable or even touch the latch lever.

By tapping up lightly on the outside of the latch using a small block of wood.  I would not believed it would work if I have not seen it with my own eyes.  David

David,
It does work if you don't have access to the handle. Once the door is open you can loosen the handle mounting bolts and move the handle away from the latch.  It doesn't take much.
