CAT 3208ta fuel delivery still an issue

Update on my issue and asking for other opinions....

This summer my 3208 was not keeping prime. After sitting for a day it would not restart.  If you gave it a couple shots of starting fluid it would fire, start and run awesome.  Shut down for a day and have to repeat this process.  I took it to my mechanic and he found an Air leak I the hand pump secondary fuel filter and we replaced it.  Now after three days it looses prime (better but not repaired). He has checked the fuel lines and they are good. Last year the fuel shutoff solenoid was replaced.  Our next plan is to have the CAT dealer check the injection pump (too big a job for my guy) but from reading previous post that can be big coach bucks that I can swing right now.

Anybody else have similar issues and find a fix? I read a old post talking about the possibility of installing an auxiliary fuel pump wired in the front of the coach to push fuel back. There wasn't an update on if it works or if it was even installed....

Thanks
Jeff

I experienced a couple of times while on motorcades the thoutle shaft seal was bad. One time to get a coach off a ferry I sealed around the shaft with grease. Worked long enough to unload.

I wonder. Do you have a check valve in the fuel line? Mine is screwed into the secondary fuel filter mounting bracket, and the fuel line goes on the other end of the check valve. Possibly you are having a siphon bleed-back if the check valve is blocked open with a piece of crud.
Our coach is also an '89, but yours could be different than our DD 8.2 fuel delivery system.

Take another look at the hand pump, make sure you have it "screwed" down after you prime the system

Good point, I have done that before. I've also had to replace the pump itself.

Since you are sucking from the lift pump to the tank, have you replaced the fuel line from the tank to the pump.  Vacuum leaks would be invisible.

So yes I fixed my 3208 cat fuel problem by putting in the facet pump right at the fuel tank. It is wired such that it is on only when starting the motor or the motor is running. Took about an hour total time. Never any problems now with starting or running. It also helps with re prime after you change the fuel filter. I also rebuilt the fuel filter with all new parts to keep it fro leaking. I do have a small internal leak on the injection pump itself but that will wait to be repaired until I have the 1200$ to buy a rebuilt pump. If you have a throttle shaft seal leak it can be repaired with the pump on the motor.I got my coach for a song because previous owner was quoted 7,000$ for a cat dealer to replace the injection pump. Took me less than 3 hours to get it running and drove it home !
