Puck light removal

I don't want to break them but I can't seem to spin the ring loose as has been suggested. Counterclockwise on the trim ring??? Any tabs to release or?

Yes counter clockwise and they can be really difficult.

Are you talking about the gold colored trim rings on the original puck lighting (Mine are in my 1998 U320)?
I have been looking for replacements for them FOREVER as they break frequently.

As stated previously on this forum, they have a tendency to stick to the vinyl ceiling. You should be able to get the ones installed in wood cabinets off more easily. I had to resort to using a large pair of channellocks (carefully!) to remove most of mine. I was able to remove them without doing any damage to them. In some cases the vinyl ceiling actually wanted to tear before letting go of the gold trim ring. In that case I worked them back and forth slightly until they finally released. Does anyone know of a good LED replacement bulb for these fixtures that will fit with the reflector in place?

A silicone jar lid gripper can help so you don't need to squeeze so hard. This helped on mine when I switched to LED's.

I have bought at least 4 different led bulbs for my puck lights. One was a flat round multi-diode that was too big diameter. Two others worked but weren't great. I bought the ones below and have been satisfied. Soft silicone like cover. I used them for 4 months last winter, still like them, but I can not promise longevity.

The color is warm and matches the halogen closely in color

I bought Kindeep G4 led bulb rated at 3000K and the bulb was too big to get cover back on so I sent them back and bought G4 led bulb JC T3 type lamp 2700K and they fit fine I think the ones that worked are the same as Steve22 used.

All my puck lights are now LED lights and I use 5000 color.

I used a glove with a rubbery surface which kept my hand from slipping. Worked perfect. Counterclockwise wise.

I was able to source lights to add additional Puck lights over the drivers and passenger compartment. At the time they also have the outer bezel too I don't see them on their website anymore though. Sometimes when you're trying to take the bezel off it gets stuck and I've been able to slip something thin in between it and pry it off. Every one of mine came off and everyone of mine was painted with a oil rubbed bronze finish. they look great.
For bulbs I use the LED pools from m4 lighting you have to make sure you get the thin pin versus the thick pin ones. They're pricey at about $11 a piece but you can get a discount code from RV geeks.

Just make sure before you order that that's exactly the right one I've ordered several lights from them in the past and I may be off on the part number as they change all the time . however I don't think you can go wrong with them for lighting products there are high quality with large built-in heat sinks. But you pay for that quality versus cheap Chinese stuff.

If anyone is replacing their original lights with the gold rim(which do have a tendency for the tab to break) I will buy all the good ones you are getting rid of
Please send pics and how many you have I will take them off your hands. I am not replacing the original puck lights with a new brand new ones as I like the gold colored rims

Take a credit card or a thin bladed spatula (metal) and carefully work it around under the trim ring to un-stick it from the ceiling material. Then turn. I replaced all of my fixtures, they all went to Forum folks. New trim rings were about $8 from FT plus an LED bulb at the time made a new LED glass fixture pretty appealing, lots of light, dimmable, direct replacement.

These are the LED Bulbs that I used. I replaced every puck in the coach. They are a little tight fit, but they work great. We are very happy with the output and light color.

Some folks removed the reflector/heat shield to make more room for the LED bulbs. Add a quality dimmer.

Not sure which style the OP has but there are at least two that I'm aware of............

The "larger trim" twist on and off and the "narrow ring" that came original on our '95 that just "snaps" on and off.

Here are a couple of pics, I'm still searching for the narrow ring snap on type.

I'm not partial to the gold, in fact I have changed out all of the cabinet door pulls for oil rubbed bronze and I have been thinking about pulling the gold rings off and glass beading them then paint with the hammers look oil rubbed bronze plastic paint

Chris I used a krylon oil rubbed bronze paint. It turned out great. I put tape over the lens so the paint wouldn't get on them clean them well with alcohol and then sprayed multiple coats until they looked the way I wanted them to. I did the same with all the drawer pulls and anything else that was gold including the shower and the mirror in the bathroom. the shower and the mirror probably needed to be powder coated and that's going to have to wait till next year cuz the paint didn't stick like I wanted it to but for the most part it's still on there just a few scratches. But I highly recommend that krylon for that application. I'm going to get some black krylon this winter to do all of my bay door and main door latches.

Ok. My 1996 U295 are pop off bezels, not screw off. I got them off and replaced the burned out led's with new ones. Only one appears to be the base that still doesn't work but no big deal as I never use them in the living room anyway. When you pry them off, the gold outer material breaks as they are old. I may paint all of them as suggested. Depends how bored I get this winter! ha ha
