Side stream oil filters

Has anybody added a side stream oil filter to their motor. Slightly more complex than a bypass because it requires a small electric oil pump. But engine always gets full oil flow instead of 90-95% flow.

Explain what it is and explain 90% of what.

Bypass filters divert 5-10% of the oil flow thru a 2 micron filter to remove finer particles from the oil downstream of the "main" full flow 20 micron filter and are piped back to the oil pan. So 5-10% of your oil pump output never reaches the bearings, piston crown bottoms for cooling, etc. At a given rpm the fixed flow oil pump pressure is mostly dependent on how fast the oil is leaking past the bearings and orifices, so the resulting pressure available where needed is 5-10% less with a bypass filter. Since a sidestream filter system has its own pump, and does not divert any of oil flow back to the oil pan and engine oil pressure remains the same as the full flow system.

Bypass filters do not lower oil pressure. The oil pumps put out more volume than is needed and there is a pressure bypass in the system. The by pass filter uses oil that would not be needed for lubrication. The bypass filter also adds volume to the system.

I agree for the most part, on worn or new engine the pressure bypass valve may sometimes open depending on engine rpm, and it does add volume. The beauty of the side stream filter is it's pressure independent and will work all of the time whether At idle or full throttle, and "polish" the oil and may help prevent oil pump wear. Bonus is that you can add it about anywhere convient with a good quality off the shelf (mass production and less expensive) prefilter prior to the constant volume 2 micron (not so cheap) filter.
Just saying. Again just saying, your big main full flow filter may last longer

Have been using bypass filters for 30 plus years, you do not lose oil pressure, the replacement
Filters run from $45 to $65 depending what size. Just drove a 06 Avalon with new oil from home
To Chicago and the oil is still super clear and the car has 157k miles.

I agree with John 44 and have had one on this coach since PO installed it in 2007 and added benefit of Amsoil.

There are some centrifuge filters out there that work good, some of them need a air source, have cleaned them and gotten solid black coal like crap out of them.
