Girard Awning Question

Our Girard works perfectly except for one thing. 

When the awning is fully retracted using either the switch, the remote or the wind sensor,  if I don't hit the STOP button on the remote there is an audible humming noise until I do.

Does anyone have experience in this area?

Yes, the limiter for retracting is staying on too long and you hear the motor still running.  On the outside edge of your awning there are two hex nuts that control the release of the awning and it has a stop you can set and the other nut is the retract limit.  On their web site you can find support on how to set limits.  I just adjusted mine not even a month ago.

The Girard has current limiting device that is supposed to prevent the motor from running on like that. In our case that device failed. Tech support advised me to just use the adjustment screws as mentioned above. The replacement current limiter is expensive. I did take this device out of the circuit. Ours is located behind the small cupboard at front right. Passenger would look right up at it.

I have repeatedly adjusted the IN hex as much as two turns in both directions, and there is no change.

Yes, you have to remove the back of that cabinet, between it and the front cap.
In reviewing my notes; my problem was that the awning stopped 2 to 4 times when trying to close. Rick at Tech Support had me bypass the current limiting device. Your problem is not exactly the same.
Suggest you call Girard 800 382-8442 or 949 259-4000. I spoke with Rick, but that was in 2011. He was very helpful.

I had the same problem, and Temecula Valley RV did the adjustment and fixed the problem.

I first had to adjust the extend length just a bit so that the awning extended but the motor did not continue to run.  Now that I had increases the extension length by about 1/2 inch I then retracted the unit and by extending it about 3 feet at a time and turning the retract limiter I was able to adjust it so motor stopped running and it fully enclosed in awning can.
