Kwikee

I just found out that the Kwikee steps I have (series 40) can only be purchased as an entire unit, as Kwikee doesn't offer a "frame-only"
in that model.

If they offer the "frame-only" in some models, they should offer it in all models....................it's not like it's a special order item.

I only need the frame.  Sorry for the rant.

How bad are they? I removed the one on the '81 and straightened it and drilled out the worn holes and used short pins for the hinges.

I can probably do something similar.

But, I would rather have gotten a new frame, mounted the assembly and then repaired the old frame, had it powder coated and then applied some new treads to have as a spare.

Kwikee is now another company bought be Lippert. My BIL needed a replacement motor for his 1999 steps...."we don't stock parts for that model", $600+ and he has a new step ! I wonder if he could get a replacement for his new one today, or if he'd have to replace the step? Helping with your rant....

Dave,

They have no competition.  The drive motor is usually a power window motor from a Ford Taurus or something like it.  I have replaced them before for cheap.  I guess I'll get to work.

Ours came with no fold-down steps, got mixed messages why it was removed. Found the very heavy-duty step and rubber mat, works perfect. I made some risers out of 2x8s if we're not on a pad. ^.^d  I think Roger had a cool set with adjustable legs!

You can probably pull it out and have a shop fabricate a new frame.. Without seeing it I am just guessing.

I have measured the steps I have and they appear to be series 40.  I found them at PPL for $478.98 plus $9.99 for shipping.
BUT, BEFORE I ORDER CAN SOMEONE CONFIRM THE 40?

As far as the old one is concerned I probably can put it in my press and straighten it out, then I will have a spare.

There should be a tag on the step with the series of the step. I can't remember what ours was on the 03, but was thinking series 38 not sure though.

Series 42 was what extreme said fit ours or the series we should use if I wanted to replace the pneumatic step 2002 U320

The tag doesn't give anything but a part number 903206003.

The steps came today but they don't look like they will fit.  In the first picture the new steps aren't fully retracted and the distance between the top tread and the mounting plate is 2-3/4", but in the second picture the old steps are fully retracted and the distance is 4".  And the new mounting plate is 15" deep where the old one is only 11".  Uh-Oh!

Does anyone know if they make an exact replacement for my OEM steps, or will I have to call Lippert?  I'm planning to redo my old ones, but I would also like to be able to buy an exact replacement if I need to at a later date.

Looks like you have a series 32 step. Page 17.

You may be right Roger, thanks for the Kwikee link.
I'll do some measuring tomorrow.
