Let's talk shocks

I have 68,000 miles on my 02.  After driving for about 2 hours (maybe me) there seems to be a slight movement in steering.  A small amount of front up & down front to back but not an issue.  Original shocks on coach. For those of u who have replaced shocks what are the benefits?  Cost where to get and model #.

Steering wheel movement is normally from wear or alignment, not shocks. One broken shock could cause steering movement on bumps. Check tire pressure on the fronts. Uneven pressure can also cause steering wheel movement on bumps. You can pull the bottom fastener on the shock and check for undamped up and down movement. Some leakage with fluid on the outside is normal for gas filled shocks.

Konis or Bilsteins last a long time.

I've heard Michelle and Steve are working on a "virtual driving apps", so we can be at the wheel to help troubleshoot.  Until then, it's the "60/80k rule"." Have the coach weighed on all four corners, check the tires and pressure, have the front end aligned and wheel bearings checked for run-out."  Only then, will you know if shocks are needed.  ^.^d

Dan,
Research Road King shocks. I had those installed on the 2012 IH45 before selling that coach. Newell Coach installs Road King shocks on coach's that need shock replacements.

For a 2002, as OPP mentions, search the forum for Koni FSD.  LOTS of discussion

All I know is after replacing all airbags and KONI FSD'S I mostly hear bumps and no longer feel them.  Monies well spent in my opinion.  David

BILSTEIN Shocks Front F4-BE5-6078-H0 Tuthill Granning Motorhome Chassis PAIR NEW

These have the correct range and are pretty close for stiffness in my Oshkosh 917.  I like the ride with them .  I bought a second set in case the rears are the same.

Hi Dan,

I jug had my shocks done at MOT. Front and drive wheel shocks (yellow FSD's ) are $172 at FOT incl. discount  or $196 at MOT incl. discount.
Tag shocks are more for some reason @ $269 at MOT (FOT was out of them).

A forum member recently reported they found FSD's online and delivered for $150. Excessive side way and  porpoising are what you look to improve. I need to find out how to adjust them when they become a little weaker.

Jim,

FSD's are not adjustable.

Only the red-brown Koni shocks are adjustable.
