Gray tank valve, cable moves

when I dump my gray tank.... the cable is moving when I push it back in to close. is there something behind the wall that hold the cable only? On the passenger side where the valve is I see a pvc tube the cable runs through.. Not sure how to fix it. any help would be appreciated.. I was thinking of shooting a gob of silicone in there to keep the cable from moving in the tube.

The cable sleeve is clamped at the top of the valve where it connects with two bolts. It is possible the sleeve has pulled loose from the clamp and is moving when you push the cable in. That happened to mine recently. It pulled loose on mine due to too much pressure when moving the cable. My valves where worn out and sticking. I replaced both valves with brand new complete assemblies. Including cables. Works much better now and very little resistance.

I pulled the siding off of the valve side ( had my son push and pull to see what it was doing and as he push it the cable would grow on the valve side.. when he pulled ti like he was lifting the valve it would shrink ( make sense?) ..kinda like a 10 speed when you pull the brake and nothing holding the cable ( lever pulls and call pulls with it.)

or another version. The cable housing is moving , its like nothing is holding the housing so the cable never slides inside the housing.. hope this makes sense

That happens when the inside cable drags. Same principle as a lawnmower cable. Use some graphite and it should fix it.

I am not following well what you are saying. Here is a document that might help. Downloads - Valterra.com | Valterra.com
It shows what it calls the collar. That is where the cable sleeve is clamped. Then there is the coupler. That is where the cable is attached to the valve. On mine the sleeve of the cable came out of the collar and wasn't allowing me to close the valve. Is your sleeve staying put when you push on the handle?

That part stays in place as its intended. I see the cable moving (wire housing as its referred to) when pushed in or out. Thus the cable not able to move the exposed wire to the valve.

Picture the wire housing in a pvc tube.. When I pull the t handle the cable and housing move not just the cable. So when I push it (which would be closing the valve) it pushes the cable housing out of the pvc tube. Its like the housing isnt being held in place by anything

If the cable housing is moving on the end near the handle it sounds like you need a new cable. I believe the housing is crimped to the threaded end near the handle. If it has come loose I don't know if you could repair it.

Mark

When you say the cable housing is moving do you mean it just flexes with the pressure of the handle or do yo mean it is loose and moving away from the threaded end?

Loose. If its crimped then I will need a new one..

David, not sure it is crimped but held in place by the outer "tube" being held by the part that comes thru the fibreglass panel in wet bay. One end trapped in the plastic valve fixture and other by threaded rod coming thru wall with the handle you pull. It does not need to be crimped in the valterra valve head as it cannot go anywhere.

Bought a new cable and assembly .. works perfect ..

Foretravel didn't mess on the length of the cable .. 1/2" more length and it would have been a no go
