Had run in with Deer

12:30 am Sunday, I had a run in with a deer at about 65mph. I can't start to tell you guys how impressed I am with my old girl " Luck be a lady "  She took one for the home team. Making Deer burger out of him. So far, other the lite damage under the bumper he took out two of the air lines to the front brakes tank. I was able to plug the two holes where the air lines were with Nylon tape wrapped around screws. to get us the other 250 miles home. What a night! Now my dilemma is how to repair my girl  :(  I wish I knew how to up load my photos from my phone . If anyone would like to see the damage . shoot me a text @ 812-697-0212 . I'll be glad to send photos . Buy the way I have full coverage insurance on her.

If you have patience and time, best place is Extreme Paint and Graphics in Nacogdoches TX - Other places are fine too, but a pilgrimage to NAC is always fun.

Xtreme Paint & Graphics

Good luck, glad it is covered!

usually if you take pictures of all damage - and send to Extreme (James Stallings, Jennifer or Greg) they can work the issue with your insurance company on getting the initial claim set up and approved, scheduling into Extreme usually a bit of a wait

They have an apartment on site that is available for customer use while repairs are affected - unless someone else is there in the apt before you - small jobs take 2-3 days typically

Best of luck, we are in the waiting period for our deer strike from September to be fixed.  You have to admit, that these rigs are solid as a tank. We hit at about 50 mph and sustained damage to the Genny area and we think that the horns may have taken out the air line to our steps cover, missing lights on passenger side and extensive fiberglass damage across the bottom section.
Hopefully these really don't go in threes, as that means someone else may be in line for a deer strike.

Be glad that it was a deer and not a piece of trash, a tire thread, or other debris as here in TX, insurance covers an impact with an animal, but not the other stuff.  I was credited as having an accident by the insurance company (USAA) when I hit a truck tire thread that caused close to $2000 damage to my car.  I more or less had to hit it, traffic both sides and 18 wheeler behind me.  Could not see it until the vehicle ahead ran over it and it had a loop in the middle not just lying flat.  I almost did not report it as from a few feet away there did not appear to be any damage except for a bent license plate.

Had a similar incident on I-40 on the way home, wasn't tailgating by any means just no way to dodge the Tire chunks. Terrible bang, and I pulled over to inspect, appeared to be a good sized dent in the transmission pan. Checked levels of atf and was ok. Problem with insurance companies is if you attempt to dodge a vehicle, a animal including humans, or anything else, and cause any other damage it's your fault. I drive a company truck and believe it or not, according to our risk manager/insurer apply brakes but do not attempt any evasive manuvers. I guess it's ok if I die, as it's only a $50,000 hit to them.

Believe me, my first instinct was to try and move to the right, that would've put me into the emergency lane . It took less time for my big girl " Luck Be a lady " to put the brakes on that idea, And hold the line, making Deer burger out of him! What a coach He was a big six pointer! Only thing I felt was him being ran over by the front and rear tires , I have a motorcycle carrier on the back , and there's deer fat hanging to the ground from it . He want be stepping out in front of any more traffic  ;)

The thing that has always seemed unfair to me: after suffering all the damage to your vehicle, you can't even salvage the perfectly good deer meat!  I mean, it's just laying there, nice and warm, and presenting a definite hazard to other motorists.  And yet, in Texas at least, if you move the carcass or worse yet pick it up and throw it in the back of your truck, you BETTER have a current hunting license in your possession.  Otherwise The Man (TX Game Warden) will want to speak to you...

Note:  This post is mostly "tongue in cheek" so you don't have to warn me about eating contaminated, spoiled, or improperly dressed out meat.

Chuck, this is a bit off topic, I'm looking for ideas on front end of our style of coach. I like the style of the later GV's . I could be wrong, But it seems I have seen a 2003 GV that has the sloped windshield as ours but then falls off more of a van style.

Well, it's your thread, so I guess you can take it wherever you like!  8)

I'm not sure what you want to know about the GV "style" nose design.  All of the GV models from the late '80's up through 1995 had basically the same front cap design.  There were some minor changes, like the change in width from "narrow body" to "wide body", and the different front hatch in the '94 and '95 models.  But they were all basically the same shape.

In 2000 Foretravel made some "modern" Grand Villa models that were based on the U320, but with a different front cap and a mid door.  They called them the GV320.  I think one member also has a GV295, which may be one-of-a-kind.  They made a few more of these in '01, '02 and '03...for a total production run of about 24 coaches.  See link below to some photos, and a note in the "history" page of Forum Wiki:
