Old phart phred,

No it not normal. LP is heavier than natural gas, used at double apx the pressure and most importantly as is heavier than natural gas so it drops into lower paces.
Would not lite a cig while smelling this and if you are smart will not light things or turn on/off electric switches with that condition. Open the door so it will not slam shut or a window. Would get some liquid dish soap and mix apx 3-1 to water in a pistol grip and spray on all the connection joints and see if it bubbles up. If it does shut the lpg off and than have the connection redone. In a rare case if you have a crack in the heat exchanger of a forced air furnace you could smell the incomplete combustion but is very rare.
Would not call for the fire dept or your service or lpg provider except from OUTSIDE your RV. PM me if you need more detailed info after doing the above.

If your tank down to 0, then this is normal.

Tank was filled last Saturday, did not notice it before when I replaced  my crappy ductwork and was running my furnace. Put 40 gallons of LPG in my 300 lb tank.

Also make sure your stove top knobs are all the way off and haven't been bumped enough to release gas without lighting. And check your batteries to make sure none are outgassing (somewhat similar odor).

Holy crap RV furnaces pressurize the burner and heat exchanger like A fire tube boiler with a combustion air fan, as opposed to home or commercial furnace that keeps the heat exchanger under negative pressure by a draft inducer fan which is very safe. Compromised heat exchanger would lead to lpg odor, moisture issues, not to mention carbon monoxide. Beyond belief that somebody would design this. My apologies to anybody that I disrespected that were having moisture problems. Replace your furnaces, if you have any of these symptoms.

Does your unit have a LPG or carbon monoxide detectors?

If so are they past their life span and not working?

How long should it take to the detector to detect a bic lighter? Checked rear furnace  or fitting leaks this morning no odors.

Battery charger was on float, range and oven ok, lp genset off, water heater was drained and gas valve wiring disconnected a few weeks ago. Ran front furnace for about 10 minutes no odors. Regulator valve burp? Refrigerator off.

I just tried that in my 5th wheel and it took 12 seconds to set the alarm off.

Just for thought  ----  There have been times when I lit off a furnace and smelled what I thought was LPG, but it was only the exhaust fumes from the furnace.  Others may have better smellers than mine, but that was my experience.    Have a great day  ----  Fritz
