Sportsman 1000 Does the Job

So this is not strictly Foretravel related but hopefully it'll help someone.  I decided to take a chance on this generator Sportsman 1,000-Watt Gasoline Powered Digital Inverter Generator-802085 -... which goes on special for $150 now and then (and I got it for that).  This is combined with a past purchase of the xantrex advaced control panel.

If you hook up this generator through a 50 to 30 amp converter, and then 30 to 15 amp converter, it can (just barely) handle the prosine charger set on 5a breaker size putting 32 amps into the batteries.  It can handle this while running the basement freezer, samsung 46" flat panel tv and 2 laptops.  Runs for 6 hours or so on half a gallon of gas. 

It's cheap chinese stuff but it has a good reputation.  Only time will tell how it lasts but...  We only boondock a couple weeks a year so we can't justify solar or even a Honda generator but we'd rather not use the big generator so much in that environment.

Oh also it's quite small, more so than the honda 2000.  Anyway, it can do exactly what I need it to.  Run for hours very quietly on very little fuel and soak the batteries.

I was having a lot of issues until I realized it was trying to run the compressor ice maker on our dometic fridge.  Obviously aquahot 110 needs to be off and fridge needs to be on gas.. You need basically everything off that runs on 110.

Here is another small generator. Don't think it will run everything yours does, but I use mine with a dedicated 40 amp charger only for house batteries, then use coach inverters to run everything else I need.

That also is a really good idea.  Prevents the wife from getting out of hand with a/c loads and allows temporarily excessive draws.

Also that generator is literally the exact same generator I have in different colors ;)
