CAPS accumulator failed

I had a terribly rough idle on my 2001 Cummins ISC350, changed fuel filters several times, cleaner, etc......problem got worse.  I decided to take it to Cummins and based on experience from John Haygarth a few years ago I took it to Cummins Rocky Mountain in Avondale, AZ ( just outside of Phoenix).  It ran fine under load but at idle I thought it was going to die while stuck in stop & go traffic near a "destruction area" on I-10.  I made it here Saturday night and appt was for Mon 6 AM.  The tech came out to get the coach, I explained the issues I was having and the actions I had already taken, started it up and it ran as rough as before.  The tech thought it was algae but took it in the back and did his thing.  The diagnostic computer run showed the accumulator  on the CAPS fuel pump has failed.  The CAPS pump comes in 3 pieces so tomorrow they are going to change out the accumulator
, fuel filters, etc and hopefully that should do it.  I asked about the CAPS pump and the service writer says the whole thing is about $6 coach bucks but my quote is just under $3 coach bucks, including diagnostic time, parts and labor.  With my Power Club Membership another 10% off should make the whole bill around $2600.00 .  That is a lot better than $6 coach bucks.

I will update after the work is done and everything is working correctly, but so far I am impressed with Rocky Mountain Cummins- they could have tried to sell my the whole CAPS pump but they didn't.        ^.^d

I wonder if tis is a issue again in the future if something like this might be in order,If it would work on a Road vehicle. Looking at the cost of the CAPS pump this looks like a pretty good deal

I would be VERY careful replacing a CAPS with the older-generation injector system.  Your engine would no longer meet EPA standards and in many states, would not pass inspection.  The kit can likely be properly marketed for off-road vehicles like farm tractors.

Additionaly the dash board might light up like a Christmas tree, due to the computer not knowing what's happening.

This is the original CAPS pump- lasted 17 years and 149,000 miles.  Hopefully will last another 17 or until we decide to slow down-10 more years assuming health and wealth hold up...................... ^.^d

Update- the work is done at the estimated price.  Coach starts and idles fine and we have a 1 year 100,000 mile warranty on the work Rocky Mountain Cummins did so I guess we are going to have to burn some diesel.

If you are having engine issues with your Cummins Rocky Mountain Cummins is a good place to bring it, just outside of Phoenix, AZ.
They are also a Coach Care facility but I have no experience with that side since I needed engine/fuel system work.

Cya down the road.................. ^.^d
