When It Rains.......

Been raining hard here for three days. I thought I fixed window leaks in my two slide windows last season. I used some clear silicone, carefully, and it seemed to work. Then I read somewhere in past posts that I should NEVER use silicone?? Anyway....got a leak again. Searched past posts, but didn't find what I was looking for. Looks like I'll take out the window(s) , clean up the old stuff and recaulk. QUESTION IS: what should I use for caulk?? I don't want to do this again. I thank you.

There is a rubber seal that Xtreme uses and it may be found by doing a search for it on Forum. Me, I would use a POlymer caulk made by Chem Link as I use it all the time and swear by it. NO water will get past it for sure and it stays flexible. Amazon has it as should any top roofing company.

Thanks, John. Was on Chem LInk's site, then Amazon. Not sure which product you are recommending, and it looks pretty costly. In reading some past posts, it seems that Extreme is using a rubber seal, as you say also. Guess Ill give them a call. Seems that they must be buying it somewhere ??? Anyone know what it is  ???

Thanks, again, Rudy. Now all I have to do is figure out how FT installed my valence and side pieces. I,ve been in construction all my adult life, but this is a head scratcher. I see a screw that goes into the side verticals from under the sill, I see some screws on the inside of the verts, but then......???? Maybe someone out there knows the secret. I could send pictures of what we have. Foretravel sure built them well.

Glenn,
Here is a link to Trim-Lok.  You can check out the seals they have.

The top valance is held in place by a few screws that go vertically into ceiling or cabinets, they are right behind the valance front. One they are off and the vertical ones (they are held on by those brackets and if sitting on a small shelf there may be a screw going up thru the bottom into the vertical valance. Once that is all out then take out the Philips screws around the metal trim plate and push the  window out while having someone support it from outside. I use the white Chem link caulk and it works great. At $8 canadian this is not expensive and worth every cent. I gaurantee you will not have a leak with it, and it is NOT a silicone caulk which to me is a joke and never use.

I've highly recommended Penninsula Glass for many years.  I'd check with MotionWindows.com - Peninsula Glass Company the maker of "Motion" windows and see what they sell and recommend.
