New Samsung tv with DHS surround digital hookup

I just finished upgrading a pre wi fi enabled led tv to a Samsung 32" LED LCD which only had one digital sound output (no analog out as only more and more tv's will have in the future) and mated it to the factory DHS surround system.  The Vizio had the analog out, but after comparing at Walmart and Costco the picture quality, I wanted to stay with the Samsung.  I budgeted for the  tv and did not budget to update the DHS surround sound system.  I am content with the DHS surround.  To make this possible for only $20, I am, (and others), very happy with the following product from Amazon,  Amazon.com: PROZOR Digital to Analog Converter 192kHz DAC Supports Volume...  It has the necessary volume control, and it works absolutely perfectly, with the DHS stock surround analog inputs from the Foretravel system.  When the speakers or the amp fails I will update with what I did next.

You could utilize one of the HDMI outs to a receiver and then drive speakers that way like most people do at home.

That is true, at this time however, I did not want to install a new receiver with hdmi inputs yet.  I chose to use the above analog converter to use the factory brand DHS surround system which only has analog inputs and no volume control.  I could also have used a "hdmi to analog converter", however, I could not find one with volume control.  I posted this since there has to be a lot of owners still out there with the DHS system and wanting to use this simple $20 device with a new tv.

Consider using one of the new car stereos to power your sound system. HDMI inputs allow you to bring audio in from several sources and then use the car stereo/head unit for your receiver/amplifier/phone/etc. Even remote amplifiers can be 12 volts. 12 volts means you don't have to have an inverter on for much of the time including A/V from your laptop. Only an inverter to power up the 4K tv. A decent car receiver will have just as clean audio as a dedicated 110V receiver.

Great suggestion Pierce.  I planned to upgrade dash radio anyway to one with Bluetooth for phone, now I've added hdmi input to necessary specifications (or I may use hdmi to analog converter).  I am appreciative of the combined knowledge in this forum.

Double thank you Pierce, I just finished putting in a new dash radio the Alpine CDE-164BT Amazon.com: Alpine CDE-164BT - Alpine In-Dash 1-DIN CD/MP3 Receiver with...  and it works terrific, the sound is amazing, now for both my tv and the dash radio all going thru the 20 year old surround oem installed by Foretravel, the 12V DHS system and I gained hands free Bluetooth for my phone.  Alpine
