Grey tank monitor

:o Hey folks it's me again.

Monitor works great on everything but grey water.

It was filled and washed out a couple times and no readings.

Would really like some help on trouble shooting this issue.

A high failure rate item.

Most just know to dump when full potable water tank is empty.

Search for "SeeLevel" tank monitor systems. These are a common upgrade. Pretty easy to install.  Two kits gets you two strips per tank and two monitors.

What did you do to your coach today v

If you can access the end of your gray tank, you might check the connecting wires on the sensors.  See if they are intact and tight.  Photo below is the end of my fresh water tank.  You can see the sensors and wires.  The other holding tanks should have something similar.

Our 95 has the foil strips instead of the internal sensors, they don't work real well either. I would like to replace just the strips if I could find a source for them.

Still use the Javelina monitor and would like to keep the OEM system as long as it works.

Just old school I guess, I would loved to have had this old coach when she was new, wouldn't change a thing and she would be in much better shape now for sure.

If you have  the foil strips, you can try adding some foil tape beside the originals, making them wider and might read better. If you have the wires screwed onto the side of the tank you can get a rubber plug about 3/8 inch diameter that has a screw in the center that when tightened expands the plug in the hole and then attach the wire to the screw. I can't remember what those rubber plugs are called.

I wonder...... would the foil tape that is used on fiberglass AC ducts work as a replacement foil strip? It would take some trial and error attempts to get the right amount of area for proper capacitive value. The original appears to be cut in a taper top to bottom.

The hardest thing is getting the little wires to make good contact with the new tape.  I have just used the 2" wide and no taper was necessary. The reinforced A/C duct tape won't work so stick with just the plain aluminum tape.

I used an overlay of the standard HVAC foil tape and it has worked well for several years.

After trying to repair / replace / rebuild our original metail tape system. I reluctantly went with the see level system, not because I didn't think it would work ( multiple post that say it would) but because I just couldn't find a way to fix the metal tape system.
Now I couldn't be happier.  The see level system in combination with the direct fill modification works amazingly well.    15 min to fill instead of 45 minutes.  And with a gage in the coach and one in the wet bay, I can watch closely outside with having to run inside to check the inside gage.
