Diesel Smell

Mid ship basement and bedroom smell of diesel in our coach and have since we bought it in the fall.  Any suggestions, concerns, remedies? DW is progressively growing unhappy about it.

We do not have AH.
PO has had fuel lines replaced (feel free to chime in Elliott).

This is our first coach.

Sounds like bad fuel lines?  Or a leaking Winn fuel filter if equipped

I would start with the easiest one, the basement.  Take off the metal tray in the center of the basement ceiling (goes down the center of the compartment ceiling front to back), that covers the electrical, air, and fuel lines, and see what you find.  Look for wet areas from diesel spilled from old hoses when changed or new leaks.  New hose could of been stretched or twisted, either can cause a failure.  Bedroom area, I'd check for exhaust leak around bed area seal and/or any openings that may have been inadvertently opened around base of bed or rear cap.

Check your fuel tank caps.  I had to replace ours as they were allowing fuel to seep out with the tank full in certain driving situations and if the coach was not level.  Foretravel had them in stock for about $10 each.

Be aware that diesel will dissolve the foam insulation in the floor of the basement.  And if diesel permeates that area, it will be close to impossible to get the smell out.

Also check all penetrations between the floor and basement.  I found cracks in caulking near fuel tank fill points.  Sealing those eliminated the problem.

Had a problem with the AquaHot pump and had about a pint of fuel in the basement. It did dissolve some of the insulation but I didn't know it right away. Took a coach buck to get the smell out! Frankly, I don't notice any problem with the missing insulation.

Our bays had a mild diesel smell after we purchased our coach. I figure it was because the PO had just done the fuel lines. I kept a close eye on all lines and connections and found NO source for the smell. Maybe some was spilled as the old lines were removed.      Anyway, a year later smell was gone
