Magnum MS-2812 Help

I have a neighbor in my motorhome community that her husband passed away and her daughter was helping clean up.  They had a ton of motorhome stuff and they were giving it all away.  Well one thing that stood out was the Magnum Inverter/Charger.  I figured that if I didn't take it someone else was going to snatch it up.  I asked the daughter why it was sitting here and if her dad ever used it. She said her dad was always a big spender.  He was always buying more than he needed.  If he didn't like some for any reason he would go buy something else.  Anyway I would like to now if there is a way to test it maybe hooking it up to a 12V battery and checking the outputs and charger.  I have no paperwork or documentation. It doesn't have any accessories like the remote panel, battery monitor kit or the remote start.  The below link on Amazon is the inverter alone without accessories.  If it works I would be willing to offer her something.  I just don't feel like taking advantage of her and take it for nothing, but at the same time I don't want to spend money on a paper weight.  I would like to see if it works first.  Then I would need to find the installation manuals.  When you look at the mounting base you can see that it has some wear where it was mounted somewhere.
Thanks for any help,
John M.

You can download the manual I am not sure but think that you can run it without a remote panel, but it is much easier to check with a remote panel.

Found the video below.  Not exactly the same model, but might give you some idea how to "bench test" the one you're looking at.

New on eBay $2k, Amazon $1,600.  reconditioned with warranty $1k.  As is where is I would put $300 on the counter and roll the dice.

If I was standing there with no way to check it $300 cash and load it in my car. Top quality.  Easily repaired.

3,000 watt continuous output, 125 amp charge.  Can equalize lifeline agm's.

FWIW - Try calling the Techies at Magnum.  They were very helpful when I installed one in our 36'.  My guess is that they would/could tell you how to test and what results you should get.

Chuck, Don't know where you found Mr Carlson's Lab working on a Magnum, but I spent an hour learning a lot about Magnum's.  Thanks, Barry John, seems like the remote panel is needed for testing.  Sounds like the family just wants to get rid of stuff, and with used equipment, everyone assumes it may have problems.  You do them a favor by removing it.  Sometime later, you will be able to test it with a panel.

John,

It looks just like mine, except about three years newer.

The manual is very detailed.

You will need the remote. The ME-ARC50 is available for about $179.71.  If you don't want to pay that much, I will sell you my used ME-RC50 for half of that and buy myself the ME-ARC50. (Just sayin')

Trent, good choice to covet the ARC.  In my opinion, Magnum should drop the RC and just carry the ARC.  Too much confusion by having two almost the same.

The SOC default non adjustable in the ME-RC50 is 80% the ME-ARC50 default is 80% but adjustable up to 99%.

Plus the ARC also seems to have a bulk charge ON button as part of its controls regardless of the batteries SOC.

The ARC can be set to disconnect charging at adjustable SOC's also as high as 99%.

Versus run your battery bank down 20% needlessly you can set it much higher to lower your battery banks cycling while plugged in and charger on.

Our outdoor storage and smsll solar and auto combiner keeps everything at roughly 13.5 volts at the dash so not as needed.

That being said I am going to replace my RC with an ARC soon.
