power tech squirrel cage blower

Looking for a part number for replacement of the squirrel cage blower for my power tech generator. I have an 03 U295 with the remote radiator on the street side.

Rick,

Has your motor has burnt up?
If this is the case you can pull the motor and it will have a ID sticker on it's case.  With that number I have gotten replacement motors from our local air conditioner parts supply company. Look for a Johnstone Supply company in your area as they should have a replacement. If you have the motor in hand they can match it up at there parts counter.

yes, motor is shot, capacitor checks good, ran 110v directly to the wires on the motor and only got a hum. Just hoping someone had a handy part number, guess I'll do my own research once I get the blower off the motor shaft.

I ordered mine directly from PT.  I had no luck finding an exact replacement on my own.  It cost about $400.

When you power up the motor give the blower a good spin.  If it runs, then it's your starting capacitor.

There is a special puller for removing squirrel cage fans from motor shafts. Helps prevent you bending fan

Your FT is the same age as mine.  How many hours do you have on the generator?
If not that many it could be something simple like an internal switch.  Does it have both start and run capacitors?

I wound up ordering the motor from FT at $180, same motor was listed at $194 on another website plus shipping. I also ordered a fan puller so should be good once everything gets here. Thanks for the input.

Hi Just curious did you have success with the puller?  I ended up ordering the shroud with the squirrel cage inside.  No joy at removing the squirrel cage.

As it turns out the puller DID NOT get the blower wheel off the shaft, wound up starting with a small drill on the shaft and working my way up until the shaft had only about a 1/16 of an inch of thickness left on the outside wall. Took a punch and a hammer and knocked the shaft out of the squirrel cage blower wheel collar. This only worked because the motor was shot and I didn't care how much damage I did to the motor or shaft.. All was good until today, when I exercised the generator then shut it off and the blower was coasting to a stop I heard a grinding sound. Pulled blower assembly apart and found that the collar (which appears to be only pressed fit into the blower wheel assembly) that has the set screw in it to attach to motor shaft had broken loose allowing blower cage wheel to free wheel. This wore out the hole in the collar where the shaft passes through, took the blower wheel assembly and did some tack welds on the collar which solved the loose problem, but the hole is too big, too much wobble. Got some shim material and will try that tomorrow. If that doesn't do the trick I will try and find the squirrel cage blower wheel only, maybe FT has just the wheel. Don't need the entire assembly.

Drill it out and press a bushing in and drill to the correct size. I would just do a Google search for the bushing and drill out a few thousandths smaller than that in the squirrel cage. Shimming it would probably leave it out of balance.

The blower motor is blower fan is a standard HVAC parts. On my genset the motor is a GE part number 5KCP39MGE215ES, 115v, 1645 RPM 1/2hp 3 Speed reversible rotation. Grainger has them in stock for $145 and they carry large selection of blower wheels, just give them the dimensions.  If no Grainger's close by any HVAC/Refrigeration parts supplier can help you since these parts were used in a lot of older furnaces.

I know that on my unit (2002 U320 Build 6019) the shroud, needed to be taken apart to get the squirrel cage out.  If on the road this could be a problem especially for someone like me who is wrenching impaired..
