Allison Transmission

After a year in the shop and many thousands of dollars in repairs, my coach is on the tarmac with new basement, bulkhead overhaul, tires, new batteries, new proper engine oil, new stove and fridge, etc.

The latest worry to pop into my head is the transmission service.

Given my very bad impression of the PO's maintenance practices, my concern is : Was proper transmission service and checking done? What are the Allison service intervals/routine maintenace procedures that one should ensure have been done prior to embarking upon a trip, particularly entailing the crossing of several moderate passes enroute in the north western U.S.?

With out tearing into the trans the only way to get a picture of the trans Health is send a sample of trans fluid to someone to analyze like Blackstone. Might try that. Allison should have a Manuel for service & maintenance online.

If you have no info you have no choice except to treat the trans like it needs new fluid and filters, would definitely go with the transynd or the Amsoil equivalent. The oil sample is good but won't tell you how long it has been in there.

I have no interval info. I will have the tans changed, an of course will use the current transyd or synthetic higher standard.

Thanks for the info.

before you change it send in a sample and it may have some history to tell like metal and such and just how bad the fluid is.
