Removing jacknife sofa

Need to remove the jackknife sofa to have it recovered. It has a single drawer in the middle. What is the best way to remove it? Bolted down somehow but was not sure the best way to get it undone. I pulled the drawer out and took pictures but could not see in there well.
Thanks!

Make it out into a bed part way and remove the 4 bolts for the cushions. Then you can get to the screws that hold it to the floor.

Coolant leak was in my future.

Here's a couple of photos that I took when I removed our couch. Hopefully, they'll give you an idea. I inserted arrows to show you the bolts. As Craneman indicated, the base of the couch is just screwed into the plywood floor, a dozen or so Robertson wood screws. It's pretty tight in there but you can kind of balance the mechanism so you can get a good look. Also, removing the drawer gives you a good view.

Bob, I'm assuming Jor's couch was out of a 97 270 I just took the couch out of my 99 320 it has 3 bolts on each end. I partially raised the seat took the drawer out then removed the front panels 2 screws each, took screws out of aqua hot heater so it would move around pulled Bose machine out from other end unhooked all cables ( they are all labeled ) then took the 4 floor bolts out
(1 bolt and 3 lag screws) then I folded the couch into the bed position picked up the frame and couch so the couch was resting on the top of the back, this put the frame at waste level facing you. At this point you can take the 3 bolts off each end of the frame and carry the upholstered part out the door still folded flat.  You can take the top part off without removing the frame from floor I just found it easier to get to all the frame bolts with the unit standing  up against the window sill.  It is much easier with 2 people I didn't have any help!!!
Chris
PS also if your couch is like mine the back and seat are fastened together with upholstery (leather) material

My back and seat were separate. I only removed the seat to get rid of the Bose and fix a kinked Aqua Hot hose.

Thanks...

I did remove the bottom seat cushion first, then the backrest, finally the  base.  Took about 1.5 hours by myself. Jacked my back up earlier this week so I was slow.
I am thinking that the armrest behind the drivers seat is blocking the drivers seat from turning. Even with it out, it won't turn all the way around, but might turn a bit more. Plus I will use a lot less fabric and cost less to recover. Any thoughts on that ? It does add some
stability to that end. The other side is into the kitchen cabinets so that gives some rigidity there.
Found a dead avocado, a 1/2 lb of coffee beans, and a Iphone under it ! Oh and a penny.  Since the coach was originally carpet, and then was tiled over, there is carpet there now. I was going to put in vinyl plank flooring next year, but might just do it this year. Will cost ~1000 to put in what I estimate to be ~250 sq. ft.  Lowes has some nice Cali white aspen vinyl at $3.50 / sf  Shop Cali Bamboo Cali Vinyl 10-Piece 7.125-in x 48.03-in White Aspen Locking...
That looks good.  Has cork backing, is waterproof, and good ratings. We replaced all the flooring in our home last year with vinyl plank and it looks good and wears well.  The tile grout is nasty and chipping and the weight is considerable.

well Bob I beat you, I came up with .61 cents thought I had found the honey hole!!!
We are looking to replace carpet with the Vinyl plank that looks like stone to go with the nearly white tile in kitchen area.
Did they or you use thinnest to hold tile down or did you glue it then grout?
Thanks

Chris, won't know till I start tearing it up. Its grouted, and doesn't look to good now. Its livable for now, but I figured if I'm going to replace the captains chairs, and have the jackknife sofa recovered, might as well look into redoing the floor. I might only do to the kitchen area for now then the rest later. The area around the bed still have the original carpet and its got to go, says the wife. So might do that area while I'm at it. Then do the rest after the summer. Not sure yet. Still waiting on the quote for the reupholstery of the jack knife sofa to see how much I will have left to spend on upgrades this year. One good thing, I just registered it and got a surprise gift from Texas, the sales tax was a little less then I planned on! Might be enough to do the floor now !! Or a new amp and speakers.... or a back up camera ... decisions decisions....

You have to mess with the steering wheel and adjust the seat forward to rotate it. Just did mine for the first time last year at Phoenix. You have the same model and floor plan as mine just different build numbers.

Bob,

The original owner of my Foretravel had FOT cut all of that end piece off above the bottom seat cushion (and recover it). That may have helped with reclining the pilot seat, but did not do much for rotating it. If you want to keep the sofa, just remove that end section and replace it with a 3/4" or 1" walnut board. This will keep the rigidity and allow more room to swivel the seat. You will still probably have to move the pilot seat all the way forward to rotate it,

BTW, If yours had a third heater outlet on that sofa end, pointing towards the pilot seat, just remove that outlet (and duct).

Hope this helps,

When you have time, can you share the fabric and costs to reupholster the Jack knife sofa...our fabric looks terrible and has a rip and must be redone.  The rest of our 1997 U270 is the white vinyl and looks fine.  We hope to follow your experience when the time comes.

Trent, its has the Aqua hot heater there. Not sure I would want to remove it. Never know when you might need it! I think the end piece is 3/4 inch ply and might be enough, but will see.

Carl, So far I have received 1 quote for $1300 for labor only to recover, using my own fabric. This did not include new foam. I have another quote in the wind waiting on it. I definitely want new foam. If I Had the time for that I might consider doing it myself. I could buy a sewing machine for $400 and the rest is just time and learning process (read screaming at the machine as I make mistake after mistake...) A new jackknife sofa is $2500 so a bit of savings for sure. And the new one doesn't have the drawer in the right place or the heater opening.
Maybe I can do everything but the actual cushions. I have a electric staple gun....

So I picked up the newly recovered jackknife sofa this week. Total cost was $900 using my ultraleather, plus some new foam. I recovered the base myself. Took a few hours to remove about 1000 staples. Probably put in twice that amount. Don't think I did as good a job as the factory, but still am pretty pleased with the project.
Oh btw the $900 was for the jackknife AND the 2 dining chairs. Pretty amazing price IMO.  Same guy is going to sew my new zip dee awnings for me as well once I get all the parts in.
Will post pics this weekend. Haven't installed it yet.

So true.... took a while to put them in with the stereo install. Got to say that reinstalling the jackknife was a bear to do. Lining up the holes for the bolts was.... difficult by myself. Had my phone handy in case my arm got stuck.
